Speedy deletion nomination of Nigel tollerman
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Nigel tollerman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. WuhWuzDat 15:25, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

editWelcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Nigel tollerman, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. WuhWuzDat 15:29, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Nigel tollerman. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. WuhWuzDat 15:31, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Deletion of Nigel tollerman article
editHello Catrina, replying here if you don't mind! I think I have unravelled the sequence of events leading to me deleting this page, and I'll set them out below.
1) You posted your original article, with some references including one from the Daily Telegraph online edition
2) Another editor felt this was not sufficient assertion of notability and tagged the article for speedy deletion.
3) Disagreeing with this, you (correctly) added a {{hangon}} template, but then incorrectly removed the speedy tag. (If you read the text of a speedy deletion template you'll see that you must leave it in place and put your {{hangon}} tag below it.)
4) Other editor/s then twice more replaced the missing speedy tag, which you removed again both times. What you will not have realised is that an article with a {{hangon}} tag is automatically added to the list of articles for deletion - even if the speedy tag has been deleted!
5) Finally another editor, coming across the article at the list of deletion candidates, agreed that the subject was notable and removed your hangon tag (thus removing the article from the 'endangered' list.
6) You restored the hangon tag, which ironically put the article BACK on the list of articles for deletion - quite the opposite of your intention, I'm sure!
7) I found it on the list of articles for deletion, came to the opposite view of the editor at (5) and deleted it.
Now I would never have looked at the article had it not been on the list for deletion, and the only reason it was on there was because you had unwittingly replaced it there. It had previously been reviewed by another editor (who is also as it happens an administrator) who had felt it was of a sufficiently notable subject. As you 'requested' the deletion by mistake and the article had been reviewed by another editor, I am only to happy to restore it and will do so.
The article will need redirecting to get the proper capitalisation of the title and I'll try and do this too - but am in the middle of cooking tea right now so this may take me a little while! Best wishes, Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 17:37, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- OK Catrina, as you can see I have restored the article and it is in its correct spelling at Nigel Tollerman with the edit history intact. My own opinion is that it is still vulnerable to deletion but I won't delete it again myself. I will make some suggestions and discuss further on the article's own talk page as I think that is the best place to continue the discussion. Kim Dent-Brown (Talk) 21:53, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
