Welcome!

Hello, Can-mex, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.

Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

About the page moved edit

Hi. As in my welcome message, welcome to Wikipedia! I see you moved the article on the city of Rio de Janeiro from "Rio de Janeiro", where it was, to "Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro", and "Rio de Janeiro (state)" to Rio de Janeiro. I believe you might have followed such examples as New York, New York and New York, right? But you see, New York is a US city/state, and as such, the articles were named following the standard naming convention for US cities and states (which was settled after a very long discussion...), and in Wikipedia, concerning the titles for articles on cities, we tend to follow the naming convention adopted in the country where the city/state is (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (city names) — but it's not written in stone or anything, it's just a way to be fair and prevent disputes over articles' titles; the common naming from the original country can be overridden if there's a common name in English for the place, as this is, after all, the English wiki). Since Brazil does not adopt the city, state format, and since "Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro" is in fact not used at all in the country or elsewhere (afaik), and a reference to just "Rio de Janeiro" would bring the city, not the state, to mind, I believe that the previous scheme, with "Rio de Janeiro" for the city, and "Rio de Janeiro (state)" for the state, would be more in keeping with policy. To avoid polemics or reverts on potentially controversial topics, I suggest that you always open a discussion on the concerned article's talk page before proceeding with said controversial edits. There, you can get consensus (meaning, you get a majority of other users to agree with your proposal); or, if your message goes ignored for some time, you can also go ahead with your changes unworried. Trust me, this actually saves you time. At your disposal for any questions (and to further discuss the "Rio de Janeiro" article, if you wish), Redux 23:38, 9 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
