Mycobacterium avium intracellulare's name

I have proposed changing the article Mycobacterium avium intracellulare 's name to "Mycobacterium intracellulare". I have posted this proposal on the article's talk page, but because this change is so dramatic, I believe there should be notice on the head of the article itself, pointing out the proposed name change. That makes sense, right? How can I do that?

Also, my guess is that I should leave the proposal up for several months before making such a drastic change. The page frequently goes for many months without editing, and rarely gets major edits, so it probably would take that long to develop either a consensus or demonstrate lack of opposition (by seeing that no one posted comments opposing the proposed name-change). Does that time-frame make sense?

BTW, if no one opposes changing the page-name, I will follow the advice of Help:Moving_a_page.

One of the basic principles of Wikipedia is “Be bold”, so I think that, generally, you should just make a change like this, if you think it's the right thing to do. If somebody disagrees with that later, they can easily revert you. You can also read about the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Waiting several months to do this is way too long, you can wait about a week, but you are right that nobody will probably respond. If editors waited this long before making any significant change, Wikipedia would never be as successful as it is.

The article Mycobacterium intracellulare already exists, and you can't just move one page over another. Read WP:Merging how to merge two articles, if you decide the merger should be done.
