Topic sentences in the critical reception of Octavia Butler's work edit
Hello Bzzzing--The two places that were tagged as weasel words in the critical reception section of Butler's article were created as topic sentences for each of the paragraphs. The writers for NYT, Village Voice, Locus, etc. are the "critics" referred to in the first topic sentence. Crossley and Raffle are the "scholars" that the second topic sentence refers to. The idea behind the two paragraphs is that the reception varies depending on whether you are a magazine or newspaper critic or a Butler scholar. I am not sure how you would like that rephrased, so I am reaching out to you for suggestion so we can get the banner out of the article. Cheers, --DrX (talk) 23:26, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for reaching out. There is really too much wrong with the section to pick out individual bits. The entire section really reads more like a puff piece from a magazine rather than part of a Wiki page. Even the fact of having a "Critical Reception" section at all is kind of odd since they're generally not included in the pages of many science fiction authors I've seen... and when similar sections are there, they usually are something like "Reception and Criticism", and more than just glowing praise (usually they have MORE criticisms than praise). Butler's "reception" section seems like just a way to slip a ton of praise about her. --Bzzzing (talk) 08:06, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hello back and thanks for the response. So, delete the whole thing? Find people who think she's not that good of a sf writer? (That may be hard, but I can try; her early stuff is, well, early stuff so I am sure there are critics that trash it). March 2023 edit
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection.
