Your question at Jefferson Davis edit
hello, @MainePatriot: You added a "why" flag on the sentence in the Jefferson Davis article that reads, "As he and [his brother] Joseph observed national attempts to limit slavery in new territories, Davis became increasingly engaged in politics[why?], benefitting from his brother's mentorship and political influence." It seems obvious from context that the sentence means he entered politics in order to become active in defending slavery and to oppose efforts and a perceived trend toward limiting it. The sentence has two footnotes citing four scholarly sources. Are you suggesting you think the inference needs to be spelled out? Or that the inference I think it apparent is in fact not right? Or that the sources say something else? Or that the sources don't say? Not sure what you're looking for. (I am not a Davis expert, by the way, and don't have any information or further sources to contribute.) (I also think "benefitting" needs only one T.) PDGPA (talk) 03:04, 24 December 2023 (UTC)
