Speedy deletion nomination of Recreational aviation foundation

Status and Advice

As reviewing administrator, I had to delete the article. Wikipedia is not a directory--it consists of articles for notable topics that people would expectto find in an encyclopedia . Mere existence and organization is not enough. The relevant standards are at WP:ORG, and the general principle behind them is WP:NOT DIRECTORY As a general guideline, national organizations in a field , or at least the leading ones, are likely to be considered notable ; state or local ones usually aren't.

A Wikipedia article needs to show this notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. If you have such references, there can probably be an article, but they have to be more than mere mentions.

On the talk page you said," The Recreational Aircraft Foundation (RAF) is a foundation that is no different that Aircraft Owners Pilot Association (AOPA) or Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA)." I am researching sources to further expand the post. This is my first post, can someone please inform me why this is up for immediate deletion. .. (This organization is structured and is credible.) "

However, Being credible is not enough--what has to be credible, is some indication not of existence, but of importance. For example, "AOPA is the largest aviation association in the world. " EAA is " international organization of aviation enthusiasts based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Since its inception it has grown internationally with over 160,000 members and about 1,000 chapters worldwide."

If you have the necessary references, you can rewrite the article , but include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the organization and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the organization, or to prospective clients--that sort of content is considered promotional. Keep in mind that the goal of an encyclopedia is to say things in a concise manner, which is not the style of press releases or web sites, which are usually more expansive. Remember not to copy from a web page, even your own. And put in a reference to a published source at the very first edit.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of the organization wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. If you think you can do it right according to our guidelines, do so, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity.

I do not want to discourage you, but to urge you to help us by improving our other articles on topics in your area. I know this sort of deletion is disappointing when it happens, but after working on other articles, you'll be able to see what's expected.
