Arthritis

edit

Thanks for the useful addition on sodium carbonate. I removed your addition to arthritis; while factually not wrong we need to keep in mind that HIV leads arthritis only by causing any of the arthritis types already listed. With regards to the chondroitin and glucosamine addition, these are useful only in particular types of arthritis (osteoarthritis or erosive inflammatory disease). I think we'd better stick to the generalisation that arthritis may be treated with medication. Let me know if you have any questions. JFW | T@lk 10:54, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

When I read the entries listed for Arthritis there was no mention of alternative medicine and or supplements that can help a great deal. Respectfully, Your idea of suggesting only medication, which implies only drugs that an MD prescribes, is very limiting to the usefulness of this forum. There is so much more to treatment of disease than what an MD prescribes. Alternative therapies are often more important that the medications or drugs from a pharmacy.
The 2 minutes a person spends in a doctors office barely scratches the surface of learning of the disease and rather gives a false sense of trust that the doctor is in charge of curing the patient when in reality it is more important that the patient learn from many other sources what causes the disease and how to treat it. The doctor does not have time in the 2 minute office visit to learn about all the details that need to be considered of how the disease is coming about in this patient nor what is the best treatment other than a commercial for profit drug of which the doctor often has been heavily influence by the companies creating these drugs or medications. Often disease can be cured by finding the environmental cause and removing that from the patients life or surroundings is more important than adding a commercial medication. Given that you have emailed your reply to me as well, I thought I should respond by email. Typical office visits last more than 2 minutes, by the way. JFW | T@lk 08:25, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Where is the page for Alternative Treatments? What are they? How are they used? Proven or Anecdotal? BryanTree 23:55, 19 September 2007 (UTC)BryanTreeReply

Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, twigs, berries, barks, teas, smoke, They are mostly called alternative treatments and supplements not medications in the u.s. They are considered in the alternative treatments as most doctors don't prescribe alternative treatments & insurance won't pay for them for the most part. Thus making them alternative. I would be dead if I only listened to Doctors.

It is arrogant to think that just because a person is a doctor or works in the commercial medical establishment that he is the lone source of health restoration and prolonging life. Many diseases are caused by or at least aggravated or triggered by environmental factors. Most doctors I have been to downplay and ridicule this as you have just done by deleting my additions and they are wrong to do so as proven by the past three decades of my life dealing with disease's and death. I see some shift in doctors learning and trying to incorporate the alternatives to practice such as lysine helping herpes was laughed at years ago and now some doctors recommend it. Yogi inspired sinus cleansing to kill sinus infections was laughed at and is now being recommended (tho not properly as it is not as simple as a prescription of over the counter saline solution in a bottle which is a weak way to attempt it. but thats a long story that should have a page all to itself under sinus infections if the doctor would allow us, to learn to heal ourselves as well as listen to their advice, and take the drugs their pharmacy reps push on us and on the doctors) Herbs that can be smoked or burned for medicinal purpose are another- is it medication when its illegal and unrecognized by you as useful? no its alternative to your treatments and if patients find comfort and benefit when it does not harm others we should be allowed to learn about it and practice it.

My rants are well founded from doctors making me sick and almost killing me by forcing their ideas of healing over my natural instincts for survival and learning on my own what worked for me and others. You deride environmental factors to your own detriment as well as ours. Does that means dust or mold does not cause sinus infections? and the medication for sinus infection according to most doctors was antibiotics which was usually a bad choice.

you said- "But I disapprove of people going to doubtful websites that claim that illnesses have environmental causes while it is scientifically evident that there are no environmental causes for some illnesses at" -

I don't know what websites you are referring to but my point was to use Wiki for a page on alternative treatments for each illness and discussing them online at Wiki so that you can be a part of it as a doctor even tho you may not agree now you still may learn of new treatments for your patients when enough of them learn what works for them and they tell you of it.

Scientific evidence of no environmental causes is not always right - if you link a virus or gene "defect" to a disease yet the virus or gene "defect" is not active unless an environmental factor causes it to overtake the person then was the environment a partial cause.
