What is Going On?

edit

Why can I not edit pages? Isn't the whole point of Wikipedia to be able to add information?

Unblock

edit

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied, we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details, there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
If you are able to edit the sandbox, you are not blocked from editing. Either the autoblock on your IP address has already expired, or you weren't blocked in the first place. Either way, you can resume editing.
  3. If you are still blocked, follow the directions below:
    1. Copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "Unblock request" section.
    2. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page, and click save.
If you cannot edit your own talk page, use the Unblock Ticket Request System to make your request.

I didn't do anything, and I can't edit the sandbox like you suggested to see if the block was up.

Who the heck is foolyo? This is what it brings up: This account or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by Alex Bakharev for the following reason (see our blocking policy):

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Foolyo". The reason given for Foolyo's block is: "hoax-only account". Your IP address is 68.99.255.166.

OK. Give me a second and I will try and lift your autoblock. Please don't edit again until I tell you so, as you could retrigger the block again. I'll post again here when it has been lifted. Rockpocket 22:54, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
The autoblock has been lifted, you should be fine to edit. Please be aware of our policies and edit responsibly. If you were autoblocked because you have previously broken our rules then you will be blocked permanently next time. If you were blocked accidently, then please accept my apologies and happy editing. My Edits

edit

Why was my addition to the Dwight York page taken down? It had valid cites, and was true.

You will have to discuss that with the editor that removed it. [1] Rockpocket 23:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

My Watchlist

edit

What do the little green and red numbers that appear next to pages that I have edited mean?

That is the sum number of characters added (green) or subtracted (red) in the last edit. Rockpocket 01:37, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Editing

edit

How do I do advanced editing like text boxes, pictures, and other things not labelled in the cheatsheet.

See Here for image details and here for captions. This is a tutorial of how to add pictures and this is a cheatsheet for the syntax. Rockpocket 01:42, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for that information, but I was asking is: how does one make boxes of information like the box of contents that appears on my talk page and the boxes that list people's birth dates, death dates, and occupations?

The contents box is generated automatically by the Wiki software based on the number of subheadings on the page. However, you can create boxes usings templates. For an example of how to use one, see Wikipedia:Taxobox usage. You can create your own infobox templates if you wish, but they can be quite tricky to code. Read Help:A quick guide to templates to get started. If you have problems, the people at WP:INFOBOX might be able to help or you can ask an expert listed here. Speedy deletion of Speech and Debate

edit

A tag has been placed on Speech and Debate, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Duplicative of Debate, Rhetoric and others.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Chunky Rice 04:53, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about the whole Speech and Debate page. I didn't know that separate pages existed that described what I was getting at in one page. I think it would be best to merge the pages that talk about Debate and Speech. Borat55 04:55, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No need to apologize. I was just giving you a heads up. If you want to propose merging the pages, you should do so in their talk pages. I have to say that it seems unlikely to me, though.Chunky Rice 04:57, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

RE:Mods

edit

Are these mods notable, and, if so, do the references assert that? ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions19:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • actually, the Cinema mod, is quite popular, and the Kung-fu mod is extremely popular amongst Max Payne gamers.
That doesn't answer the question: is it notable? Popularity is not notability.Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions21:26, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, these mods are notable mods. The kung-fu mod is referred to in Max Payne in a poster, while the Cinema mod is well respected and well-known. I'm a little unsure as to what you mean by "notable," but I'm pretty sure that the mods in question are well-known, well-respected, and notable. I hope that you don't block me for undoing your edits, I did give reasons.
As far as being blocked, you have nothing to worry about: first, I don't have that power, and second, content disputes aren't grounds for blocking. As far as the content, like I said, popularity isn't notability, that is to say, just because something is well-known in a certain community doesn't make it notable, but, say if you had a source of press coverage over the mods or something similar, then that's different. Basically, you should find a source that is, maybe, a press article from a notable magazine or website about the mod. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions02:03, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Max Payne 2 characters

edit

Please do not readd those removed characters; these characters are not notable per the WP:FICTION policy; please read this policy before considering adding them back. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions17:36, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

User Page

edit

How can I add icon pictures to my user page? Like the ones that say "I don't think Marsellus Wallace is a bitch" or "this needs more cowbell?" Yea, I'd like a response. Borat55 16:41, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry no one got back to you on that. Next time, try putting {{helpme}} somewhere at the top of your talk page. Concerning the Userboxes, here goes the ones you want. Just copy the code and put it in your userpage:
{{User:UBX/pulp fiction}}
{{User:Xaosflux/UBX/User Cowbell-2}}

Just copy and paste that into your userpage. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions19:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problematic references

edit

Regarding your very recent revert to Chaparral High School (Scottsdale, Arizona), I want to point out that your references for this section, such as [2] do not serve as very good verification of your claims, as they do not clarify from which high school these individuals come. It would seem that they could be from anywhere the way those brackets are published. Please add more information to verify your claims. Also, listing of all the winning individuals every year on wikipedia is not really appropriate. Perhaps noting how the school did overall then clarifying more details on a separate website, such as one from and by the high school would be much more appropriate. --Kukini hablame aqui 22:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
