Numismatics articles

Images

Some images I know we need(off the top of my head) are any and all commemoratives. US and world. I'm not sure if there was an agreed upon format for the namin of the upload, you may want to check the project talk and style pages. Hey, thnx for the quick work on that page. I've downloaded them all onto my comp. I uploaded 2 to test it out(my first uploads:). Please check them out, make sure you concure with the licensing and such. I'm not sure if it'll come back since I'm not the auther. Spam

Please do not add commercial links (or links to your own private websites) to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. I must say I have strong issues with you classifying my links as spam. Every single link I added is DEAD ON relevant to the page and contains a huge amount of information relevant to the page that would not be appropriate to add to the page. Deleting them is doing your readers a huge disservice.

As far as not linking to your own website, where do you think 90% of the external links on here came from? Just because they're your own doesn't mean they're not appropriate.

As far as no links to commercial sites, you might as well remove all the external links then.

I find it interesting that people have thanked me, then you come along and remove them. As far as content, I have added content, made corrections, and uploaded a lot of my own photos for anyone to use.

This is ridiculous.

Hi Bobby, as much as your contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, adding links to your own website, commercial or not, is not appropriate. As a Wikipedia editor, it is a conflict of interest. If your site is relevent and authoritative enough, someone else will add it eventually. Hope that makes sense. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers. Kaldari 22:04, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

User talk page etiquette

It's considered good practise on Wikipedia to archive discussions from one's user talk page rather than deleting them. It's probably not a good idea to archive or delete unless the discussion is finished, however -- generally, two weeks or so is long enough to wait for archiving unless it's very clear the discussion is finished. I've restored the "Spam" section to your user talk page because it's clear to me from activity on the various pages you've edited that other editors seem to be in disagreement over whether your links are spam or not. I personally don't think they are, but that's a discussion for the above section. :) --chris.lawson 22:54, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey Chris, thanks for the heads up. I deleted it because we finished the discussion here.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:GraemeL . Seems to me the matter is pretty much closed now. The part here was done and kind of just hanging out there.

I have a question. I'm going to take my first crack at a brand new page starting tonight. I'm going to pick one of the US Commemoratives from the photos I supplied. (Joe uploaded them for me) I'm not real sure about the formatting, but I figured I would lay the page out on paper, then find a page laid out the same way. I could then copy all the code to notepad and replace the sections as I go. Seems to be the easiest way to learn with minimal risk of doing something not appropriate.

Since the images are now on Commons, they will be available on every Wikimedia project and language, not just the English Wikipedia. You can still use the images the same way, but we won't have the same image in the servers twice. --Rory096_(block) 18:37, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Please pardon my procedural ignorance. I'm new at this, but I'm learning. :-) So you're saying that when they are deleted, it will not affect the Seated Liberty coinage page? Hey, I forgot to tell ya. I uploaded your images on commons allready, at commons:Category:United States commemoratives. If you have any more to upload, I think commons is the prefered place to put them, so other wiki's can use them. Image Deletion

For those two, you can use {{db-redundant|image's new name here}}, as redundancy is a criterion for speedy deletion. For other things, you can use {{subst:ifd}} and hit "show" for the instructions on how to list something for deletion. --Rory096_(block) 23:35, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Reagan Dime

Hey I saw your edit on Dime (United States coin) and I'm wondering if it should really be there. I saw the commercial last night and they're made by a small mint in Rhode Island not the United States Mint. I think at the very least, that it should be made clear that it is not affilliated with the Mint. I don't know if you knew any of this, so I thought I would bring it up with you here to see if you agree or not. Bobby 12:36, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Bobby. Thanks for your note. I have two thoughts. The first is that mentions of a redesign (including a Reagan redesign) of the dime should be in the article, including any commemorative coins that aren't actual U.S. currency but are remarkably similar to real money. Second thought: Yes, I think it's worth mentioning that this new coin (not an actual dime) is made by a different mint. You and I probably saw the same ad on TV. Watching the ad, I noted that the obverse lacked any indication of monetary value (leading me to the conclusion that it wasn't legal tender) and that the ad never described the actual coin for sale as a dime but always as simply a proof. Seems you're much more the numismatist than I, so I defer to you to some degree. President Lethe 14:54, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
