Daniel Boone House edit

Hi Michael,

The image you added of the Daniel Boone house, is, I believe, not actually the Daniel Boone house. It appears to me to be the Bertolet House, a log cabin which was moved to the site of the Daniel Boone Homestead. The actual Daniel Boone home is a nearby stone house.

Here's the Daniel Boone house from the official website; here are some other awful photos. This is not the same building as in your photo.

Here is a page with a photo of the Bertolet House, which is the same building in your photo. (You have to hover your pointer over the picture to read the caption which identifies the building.)

Did you, by chance, take any photographs of the stone Daniel Boone house, where ole Dan'l was born? --Kevin Myers | (complaint dept.) 19:58, 22 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kevin,
Right you are--that is indeed the Bertolet House. Chalk this up to my misinterpretation of an Historical Place marker. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I will root through my collection; I do believe I have a photo of the actual Boone homestead somewhere. In the meantime, I'll remove the offending image.

License tagging for Image:Frederick Fleet.gif edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Frederick Fleet.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:06, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Please desist with making edits you know nothing about edit

I have a Masters in Science (Forestry) and you are making reverts on the flying squirrel pages here. Specifically, your information on keeping flying squirrels as pets are NOT what constitutes an ARTICLE here at Wikipedia. Additionally, your revert edits delete valuable information I have added to the body of the real articles. If you continue with your actions, you shall be reported to Wiki officials.

Thank you,

Faunistic

I may not have a degree in Forestry, but I know plenty about flying squirrels from both research and firsthand experience. I reverted that page because a large amount of information was removed without any justification offered, which is bad form any way you slice it. All of the information in the article was accurate and in keeping with Wikipedia's standards. In addition, I don't appreciate your condescending tone. I'm am returning removed information to the article, and if you have a problem, I encourage you to report it to whatever officials you like. ---- Michael Hays 21:42, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kitler edit

shame, it was such an incredibly cool term, oh well, maybe in a few years --Aliwalla 15:52, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Haha, yeah. I do have to thank you for introducing me to that web site, though. That is funny stuff. I wish *my* cat looked like someone (in)famous. —dustmite 15:55, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Eighth Wonder of the World edit

Hi -- I noticed you voted to delete Eighth Wonder of the World. I just wanted to let you know that I've gone through the list and rigorously cited as many as the entries as I could and tagged the rest with {{fact}}; I was hoping you could take a look at it and perhaps reconsider your vote, as the changed article drastically changes the conditions under which you voted to delete it. Thanks! Dylan 04:14, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Lowe Bio edit

Hey there. I hope you don't mind me adding bits and pieces to the Lowe Bio. And, if I'm not doing something right, feel free to tell me; I'm pretty new to Wikipedia, and am still learning the ropes. Thanks for letting me help! SLWatson 07:41, 16 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice work; the new introduction has really improved the article. I have taken the liberty of removing the context tag. Thanks a lot for contributing! —dustmite 00:24, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

MacGuyver solutions edit

Question: Someone (IP-only user) deleted the whole of the List_of_problems_solved_by_MacGyver page except the intro. I couldn't find any reasons as to why (especially since the delete discussion resolved to 'keep') though I'm not sure if that's just because I'm relatively new to WP. Any reason not to undo? Pyrephoenix 04:21, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind--while I was trying to figure it out (and eventually coming here) someone else reverted it. -Pyre —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pyrephoenix (talkcontribs) 04:24, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Newbie to wiki. edit

Hi, I'm sorry to bother. But I've seen some very interested wiki page lately and I'd like to post a comment on that page. How do i do that? (Since the page doesn't have the "+" button.

PS: I'd like to comment about a fake wiki page. Which a real friend of mind had be posted on wiki without her notice/permission and she requested for the page to be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Javaboi01 (talkcontribs) 02:28, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Permission to plagiarize hehe :) edit

Since my own user page is something of a disaster i've been avoiding fixing for months... and yours is amazing, might i steal your general format? 83.233.180.41 01:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't mind at all. Truth be told, the format of my user page isn't original to me, either. But everything's fair game on Wikipedia. ;) Share and share alike, eh? —dustmite 02:23, 12 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
The Above post was mine hehe... I'm still at the WIP stage, but I wanted to thank you anyways... As both an undergrad and a debater i am somewhat anal about permissions to plagiarize/copy... HawkShark 10:40, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:ParkersburgSeal.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:ParkersburgSeal.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. NowCommons: File:Wallace Hartley.gif edit

File:Wallace Hartley.gif is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Wallace Hartley.gif. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Wallace Hartley.gif]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 22:54, 25 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Postmortem Photo edit

I am wondering where you got the photo called "postmortem man?" (The summary is "Circa 1860 post-mortem photograph of a deceased man in a chair with table and book. The body is arranged so as to appear lifelike. From private collection.") I see that it is in the public domain. I would like to use this photo for a project, and I just wanted to confirm with you that it is indeed public domain and I can legally use the photo. I would appreciate a prompt response, as I am on a tight deadline for the project. Thanks. Baggity (talk) 17:38, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Photo usage edit

Hi, I'm working on an educational videogame with which I'm trying to build a bridge between animal awareness and Pokemon fans among others. It started out as something small and I contacted you before, but it's getting bigger and more professional and I wanted to make sure you were ok with it. I saw one of your pictures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jill_Flying_1.jpg

And I would like your permission to use it under that license with the following attribution: Michael Hays, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/user:bluedustmite

Also, because I want to make sure there's no misunderstanding, you are the original photographer correct? It sometimes happens that another person simply takes a picture from somebody else and uploads it to wikipedia with a license to distribute. That is why I'm asking.

There is more information on the game here, including a short video that tells a little bit about the background: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/238178285/animalalbum

I also have a demo version of the game available so you can see for yourself in what way the pictures are presented: http://dromedarydreams.com/index/demo/0-8

Please let me know if I have your permission, if the picture is yours and if you want a different attribution.

With kind regards, Sjors Jansen (all.animalalbum@gmail.com) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Garfunkel_Jansen

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
