December 2009

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add content (particularly if you change facts and figures), as you have to the article Richard Herring, please cite a reliable source for the content you're adding or changing. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for information about how to cite sources and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Whaley Bridge

edit

Sorry if it seems uncharitable, but I've removed some of the material you added to the Whaley Bridge article (most recently the dates of the next festival). The section in question is already borderline promotional in its tone, and Facebook is not usually considered a credible source, but I've left some of the material even though it's not really encyclopaedic. I'm sure everybody is sympathetic to the aims of the various charities and organisations involved, but Wikipedia is not the place to promote local events. It says unambiguously at WP:PROMOTION "Those promoting causes or events, or issuing public service announcements, even if noncommercial, should use a forum other than Wikipedia to do so." Another problem with adding dates of future events is that they become out of date if not removed after the event (see WP:RECENTISM, WP:BALL etc.).
