You may have accidentally created a userpage in the main article space

edit

Hey BigMar992,

You may have accidentally created a userpage in the main article space, BigMar992. If you would like to clean it up yourself (you should, it doesn't belong there!), add this to the top, {{Template:Db-author}}, and an admin will come along and delete it for you. Read about how it works here, Template:Db-author.

error?

edit

I am not sure what I did wrong.......I am new to wikipedia and what I have tried to do is simply create my own userpage that others can access......I think that, possibly, I cannot search for user names (i.e. BigMar992) and have the searcher see my page? If so, I will delete what I wrote under BigMar992, which comes up under search.

  • Thanks for moving your information to your user page! The encyclopedia article that's now blank will be automatically deleted. When the Wikipedia search engine updates (can take anywhere between a day and two weeks), your user page will definitely be included. Until then, you can give friends your user page's URL ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BigMar992 ).--M@rēino 23:37, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

tinnitus

edit

The article you cite says this:

"Some people allege (quite controversially) that the artificial sugar substitute aspartame is linked to tinnitus, vertigo, and many other serious problems (I agree). To retrieve further information about the allegations against aspartame, send e-mail to freeinfo@servint.com and include the lowercase command "info mp" in the body (not the Subject:) of the message."

Not quite scientific, kid.

My point is that you cannot list it as a cause of tinnitus if it hasn't been scientifically proven. The fact the FDA has recieved complaints about aspartame doesn't mean anything. I know how to use the internet, thank you, and there's really no need to be condescending. It's just that there is a lot of junk science out there, made popular by hacks like Kevin Trudeau. Believe me, when I deleted the item from the list, I did check Google and my school's journal database, and I couldn't find one thing that wasn't biased. If you can find (or I, I'll look again) one peer-reviewed study pertaining to the aspartame-tinnitus link, I'll consider myself proven wrong. In the meantime, don't believe everything you read on the internet. I've contacted the Mediation Cabal to help resolve this issue. Here's the link to the case page: Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2006-07-30_Aspartame-Tinnitus_Link Jesse 23:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Tinnitus-Aspartame mediation

edit

Hello BigMar992. I have taken on a request for mediation concerning the supposed link between tinnitus and aspartame poisoning. You are listed as one of the disputing parties. I am soliciting opinions concerning the dispute here. Thank you. Rohirok 02:53, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello BigMar992. I've made a proposal for action concerning this issue here. Please let me know whether you agree that this is an acceptable action to take. Thank you. Rohirok 02:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hello BigMar992. Thanks for your efforts to work toward consensus. Assuming Jesse also agrees to the proposal, the mediation can be closed. I think the article can be greatly improved by this. Providing proper references is very important, especially if the article concerns a scientific or medical subject.
Regarding the link your provided: I found no evidence that it was peer-reviewed and published in a reputable scientific journal. From a quick scan of the article, it seemed like the author was relying on a lot of patient self-reporting about symptoms and aspartame use, and also encouraged medical doctors to ask leading questions concerning the same, which can be problematic and tend to confirm assumptions about a link, rather than test those assumptions. Even though the author did have a lot of credentials, without a publication in a peer-reviewed journal, the author's views are likely to be a small minority view in the medical/scientific community, and therefore not yet acceptable to include in a Wikipedia article. The fact that the FDA rejected a lot of the links being made between aspartame and certain symptoms also seems to indicate that this a minority view still looking for adequate confirmation.
Do you have access to a medical textbook or a diagnosis reference book used by medical doctors? These are also acceptable sources for information in articles about medical subjects, and you would likely find confirmation for several causes of tinnitus in there, along with information to enrich the rest of the article.
