BerdanII (talk) 06:12, 20 November 2013 (UTC)== November 2013 == Information icon Hello. Your recent edit to Redwood High School (Larkspur, California) appears to have added the name of a non-notable entity to a list that normally includes only notable entries. In general, a person or organization added to a list should have a pre-existing article before being added to most lists. If you wish to create such an article, please first confirm that the subject qualifies for a separate, stand-alone article according to Wikipedia's notability guideline. Thank you. There is nothing in either the wikilink or the reference attached that shows a connection to the school. That will need to be referenced. As he does not have an article on Wikipedia, the reference that you were using or one like it must also remain to show his notability. John from Idegon (talk) 04:12, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Notable people need to be notable

edit

A reference to the school's website is most certainly a self reference. In order to be on a notable people or alumni list a person has to be notable, by the standard of WP:BIO. Just because the school thinks they are important has absolutely no bearing on anything. As far as Fisher goes, he probably is notable. Department chairs generally are. In order to include him, you would need to show a reference independent of him and of the school backing up that he is a dept chair (most of the time, a reference to a person's employer would not be considered an independent source, but since all it is referencing is the fact that he holds a certain job with them, it is ok. Just being a department chair is enough to show notability. If, however you were using the MIT ref to show some academic accomplishment, then it would not be independent.) You will also need a reference connecting him with the high school, as neither the list he is on nor the MIT ref gave any info on his high school. For that limited purpose, you could use the high school's hall of fame listing, whatever it was called. But simply listing the people from the hall of fame because they are in the hall of fame is a no-go. In the last few days I have removed a lot of promotional language from this article. Articles on schools are about them, not for them. There are guidelines for content on a high school article at WP:SCH/AG John from Idegon (talk) 06:29, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
