Article review: Likert's management systems/Rensis Likert

edit

Hey there; it's your friendly campus ambassador(s) doing the rounds on your group's work so far!

First off, good job on an informative and well-written article. You've explained the four management systems very clearly, and your intro is very solid as well. The article is just about ready to leave the sandbox (more on this later), but first you really need to cite more of your information. As it stands, the meat of the article is completely unverifiable. My only other suggestion—and this one can wait until after you've left the sandbox—is to expand the scope of the article beyond just explaining the systems. You'll know better than I do what kind of information is out there and/or relevant, but here's a basic outline of what would be helpful:

[introduction]

History

In 1960, Rensis Likert said "Let there be management systems,"[citation needed] and there were management systems. And he saw that it was good.

Likert's classification of systems

Likert identified four distinct management systems, which he ranked (I-IV) in order of effectiveness [I made this up].

Exploitative authoritative (I)
Blah.
Benevolent authoritative (II)
Blarg.
Consultative (III)
Bliggity blahg.
Participative (IV)
Baron von Blargenpants.

Application

Many organizations today and throughout history can be seen using these management styles. Notable examples include...

Criticism

In 2001, Enron CEO Kenneth Lay derided Likert's management systems as "wussy" and "unrealistic."[citation needed]

I know that's a lot to dump on you at this point, but it's a good example of how the article could be expanded.

I see you've also been improving the main Rensis Likert article—great job on adding that infobox! The article as a whole is looking much nicer now. I would suggest making the management systems section a separate article and just linking to it with a brief summary, just like the Likert scale section above it. You can just move the article out of your sandbox as soon as it has more references, or ask me for help if you're having trouble.

Overall, you're looking good!
