The article is very well structured, easy to understand, balanced, neutral and the assertions are backed up by reliable sources. I especially appreciated that you made the specification of the subject matter being associated with road ecology directly in the title. That removes any confusion about the ambiguity of the concept, as I know it can also relate to a barrier effect of vegetation in relationship with various particles.

The only comment that I have is to include a reference that sustains the following statement in the lead section: "To reduce a road or railway's barrier effect, wildlife crossings are regarded as one of the best mitigation options, ideally in combination with wildlife fencing." Also, directly related to this statement, there is also a tension between the barrier effect and fencing as a mitigation action that I think should be touched upon, whereby any sort of fencing structure increases the barrier effect per se, but used in combination with crossings, it has the potential to decrease the overall barrier effect. You mention this towards the end of the article, but I think it would aid the clarity if it were to be added in the lead section.

Hello, thanks for the review! Your suggestion to add a reference to the sentence in the lead section was helpful, and a citation has been added.

On the whole, this is a well done encyclopedia article! That said, some possible copy-edits: you might want to consider changing the start of the sentences in your first section. Currently most of those sentences start the same way, so shifting the way you start those phrases could make it flow better. I'm also wondering if you might be able to expand on the positive/negative effects section? As it stands, though, it's very informative and quick and easy.

P.S. Sorry I'm late with the review, I only figured out where to find the draft article just now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AlexanderMacIsaac (talkcontribs) 06:08, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks for the review! I changed up the beginnings of a couple of the sentences in the lead section to make it less repetitive. Good catch!

Dear Ben, Your Wikipedia article is really good and I enjoyed reading it. I like your article because I understood it although I did not have any background about your topic. Just in the "Mitigation measures" part, I couldn't understand this sentence and I think it is not clear: "Studies have found that reducing the speed at which drivers travel along the road produces less noise, potentially reducing the road's barrier effect.". I think it is a good idea to add more sentences about this result for better understanding. for example, how the speed of the drivers has some effects on the road's barrier effect?
