Thank you.

A tag has been placed on WitneyTV requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. B Babonde (talk) 19:33, 23 June 2010 (UTC) This article is about a non profit local tv station that has started in West Oxfordshire where I live. Speedy deletion nomination of WitneyTV

edit

A tag has been placed on WitneyTV, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A tag has been placed on WitneyTV requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

WitneyTV

Hi ! I understand why you've created the article, but there's a guideline on Wikipedia, called WP:CORP, which states the minimum standards of inclusion for companies and non-profit organisations. Basically, unless WitneyTV has received significant coverage in reliable sources or has won a significant award, it's unfortunately unlikely to be a suitable subject for a Wikipedia article. If you do believe that WitneyTV meets the criteria, I suggest that you recreate it on a subpage in your userspace, and then send me a message, and I'll check whether it's OK. Otherwise, there are other ways of spreading the word about the station - a facebook page might be appropriate here. Anyway, good luck, and I hope you become a regular contributor. • BBC Oxford TV is a local news agency, so if that's the only coverage they've received, they probably still don't meet the notability guideline. Coverage in national news sources or published works is really necessary. However, why not write about it on the article Witney ? There's currently no section on local media, and it's certainly appropriate there. Regards. Claritas § 20:06, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
The material above is from a helpful and well-informed user; I'd recommend you read it carefully. I noted the "hangon" tag you applied to the above-captioned article and the material you left on its associated talk page, which I copy here for your convenience: "This article is about a non profit local tv station that has started in West Oxfordshire where I live. They provide video news to the community about what's going on in and around Witney, West Oxfordshire and are recognised by the local council and people of West Oxfordshire as providing a valuable service to the community.". There are two problems with this, in relation to the article I saw. One is that you haven't provided any reliable sources by which a reader could confirm these assertions about "providing a valuable service", and the other is that this seems to be entirely local. As User:Claritas notes above, coverage in national news sources or published works is really necessary. For those reasons I have decided to agree with the editor who tagged the article for speedy deletion. Claritas's advice with respect to creating a subpage in userspace is my recommendation too: it seems as though this editor will help you to accomplish whatever you can accomplish here. If you have any questions about Wikipedia policy, or if you wish the deleted keystrokes to be returned to you for that subpage, please feel free to leave me a note at your convenience by clicking on the word "talk" after my signature. Best wishes for your future contributions. Accounting4Taste:talk 21:26, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
