All Saints, Bristol

Fine by me to use the engraving rather than my pic (I remember this being in a narrow lane so not much of the church included anyway). I have taken the liberty of changing the commons category on the one you uploaded as we already have Category:All Saints, Bristol where we have a line drawing from 1882 as well. Thanks for all your contributions to the Bristol articles. I have been asked to act as WikimediaUK trainer for an event with VCH/Gloucester archives (see Wikipedia:Meetups/UK/Gloucester Archives Nov 2015) and wondered if anything similar was being considered for Bristol?— Rod talk 16:55, 9 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Could you/BRO help with some of the articles on the WP:Bristol Cleanup list

Hi again, I'm currently working on the Bristol cleanup list. I/we have dealt with over 200 of these, however there are still 241 marked for cleanup. Many of the articles have "Dead external links", "In-text citations lacking ", "References needed" or "Sources lacking" or have "Unsourced statements" and I wondered if you could help with any of them. An example would be Bower Ashton where a reference from the Coalming History Resource Centre was used as a citation for the accidents which occurred in the area. The link is no longer available and the "Internet Archive" does not have a copy. Would this be the sort of thing you could help with or is it just the good work you have been doing with images?— Rod talk 15:46, 25 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the response and I understand your situation, but without knowing what the documents the BRO holds it is difficult to know where you might be able to respond to requests eg George Müller and New Orphan Houses, Ashley Down, Bristol reference documents with uncertain dates (i.e.1) Ellis, James J (post-1912). George Müller. London: Pickering & Inglis. 2) Tayler, W Elfe (1876? - the copy used for this article bears an inscription dated 11 October 1876). The Bristol Orphan Houses, Ashley Down, 3rd Edition. 12 Paternoster Buildings, London: Morgan and Scott. where the date is unknown/uncertain. Bristol International Exhibition 1914

Hi again, Do you or BRO have any photos of the Bristol International Exhibition (or white city) in 1914? I've just started putting together an article about it (currently in my sandbox) & have seen lots of photos in Clive Burlton's book & online (eg here and here + lots on ebay) but I'm unsure of the copyright status as PD old may not apply where the photographer is unknown & may not have died more than 70 years ago.— Rod talk 12:09, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I filled in a form on the BRO website asking if the copyright status of any of the pictures (mostly postcards) of the Bristol International Exhibition eg 43207/9/4/39/7 or 43207/9/4 could be released to illustrate the article I'm drafting at: User:Rodw/sandbox. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

That being so, I think it's pretty inadvisable for you to add links to it in our articles – I'm sure you'll understand that that could come across as promotion. I've reverted some of your recent edits for that reason. May I suggest that you should seek editor consensus before you add any more? I think the best place for that would be Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam; please be sure to declare your conflict of interest any time you post on this topic. It's anyway unlikely that anyone will want to see these links added to the body of the article; as Aegoceras told you here, we usually use the External links section for this kind of stuff – if we add it at all. Hi Justlettersandnumbers, thanks for your message. I'm contributing to Wikipedia as part of the GLAM Wiki project, which encourages contributions from cultural professionals about the collections in their care [1]. We have not updated our own page (Bristol Archives), only other pages where we can encourage discovery of archives resources. Please see the 'What can cultural institutions contribute' section on the Wikipedia:GLAM page: "References. Incorporate full, in-text citations to institutional web references, being sure to add them to the body of the text, not just as an external link." No, actually I don't see that. What we mean by a "reference" is something like what is in Samuel Colman (British painter) – it refers to the museum to support what is written in the article. What you added to Margaret Casson was a paragraph about a collection of photographs by her father. It wasn't relevant to the article (which isn't about him), and what you wrote was not even supported by your own collection description, which doesn't mention her at all. I suggest that it would be wise to seek editor consensus before making any more edits of that sort; you could start a discussion as I suggested, or could propose additions on the talk-pages of the articles concerned. Yes, archives relating to the father of the subject is rather remote. You should confine yourself to when you hold the main archives on the subject him/her/itself. And few readers are going to dash off to see the archives (which I presume are not online. But you have disclosed your COI on your user page, which is good. Archive citation templates

Hi, I noticed that you have been adding information about a subject's archive to their pages. I would recommend using a citation template to reference the archive rather than using an external link (which isn't allowed except in the external links section). If you are citing information from the finding aid, use Template:Cite archival metadata. If you are citing information from the archive itself, Template:Cite archive is appropriate. It's fairly unusual to cite a special collection on a page, but I believe that if an archive is open to the public that it can be cited (although citing primary sources is a different problem altogether).
