Commons

Hi!

I tried writing to your Frisian user talk page but it's protected (to anons, I guess), so, I'll write you here.

I'm a Valencian pilota amateur player. I wrote the main amount of articles in the Catalan wp regarding this sport and I finally got it to be a Featured article. :)

I've been also organizing some articles about handballs in Commons.

I just noticed you only uploaded to Commons a pic about our brother sport, Keatsen, but in the Frisian wp there are some more ([1]).

I'd love that Frisian handball has its own and proper Commons article, such as Commons:Valencian pilota and Basque pelota already do. So, in short, I suggest you to compile them all and create a brand new Commons article and category about Keatsen. This would be a great repository for our shared articles.

PS: By the way, if you happen to complete the info on the Handball International Championships, International game, and International Ball game Confederation I'd be very grateful.

I will see what I can do. On the Frisian wp we still have some work to do on the international handball varietys. I also maintain a private website on the recent development of the 1-wall game in Europe (www.muurkaatsen.nl) in Frisian, Dutch and English. Regarding my suggestion, don't worry: I already browsed the Frysian, Dutch and Walon wps searching for pics, and I created the Frisian_handball Commons category and article. Feel free to update them with more pics, improving info or removing whatever mistakes I made.

The 1-wall variant you mention is the Valencian frontó article, eventually!  :)

I'm afraid it's not 1 but 3 walls, and it's not a popular variant at all, since it's only played by amateurs, nobody feels it as own. Just take a look at the Valencian pilota Commons article: There is not one pic about frontó!

And that's because there are already two Valencian pilota variants with professional players: Escala i corda and Raspall (but this one is only in the Gandia area).

(In case you're curious this weekend the Escala i Corda Trofeu Individual Bancaixa 2007 final match was played, and today the Raspall league begins [2])

The Llargues variant (Kaatsen for you) is only played by amateurs as well. But everybody agrees it's the first Valencian pilota sport, the mother. This year, the coach (Pigat II) has elected only one Escala i corda professional player for the Valencian Pilota Squad, being all the others Llargues players [3]. And that prof hasn't still debuted on the main league!

So, in short, I can't give much more info about Valencian frontó. But, if after reading its article, you have any question, just let me know.

I'm actually much more interested in Escala i corda, Llargues and its international variants, you know.

European and International game

Hi, B.!

Recently, the admin of the main amateur Valencian pilota webpage, [4], has asked me to modify some relevants facts about our sports:

According to him, Frisian handball, Balle pelote, Longue paume and Djeu d'bale are all the variety called "European game" played in the Handball International Championships, while the Valencian Llargues is called there International game.

International Fronton, 1-Wall?

Hi again!

Could you please let me know which is the indirect game variety played on the Handball International Championships? Is it 1-wall or is it 2-3 walled as in Basque pelota and Valencian fronto?

According to your webpage [5] it's 1-wall:

"The Championship includes 1-wall, international play and Llargues. The 1-wall matches will be played at the indoor courts of "Start 65" in Buiningen."

But according to CIJB [6] it's the International Fronton:

"Se jugará en las tres modalidades oficiales de la CIJB: Llargues, Juego Internacional y Frontón Internacional"

Despite the CIJB webpage (which states it's the 3-walled one, [7]), I'm much more inclined to think that International Fronton is the 1-wall variety, as in Argentinian "Manito", instead of the Basque 2 walls or Valencian 3 walls. But, since I'm not positive, I prefer to ask. So, what are the rules? Don't you think it deserves a proper article?
