Criteria for notability edit

Contributions to this article are often susceptible to violations of Wikipedia's NPOV policy. All editors are requested to bear in mind that notability is not subjective; tracks should not be added simply because they are the editor's favourites. Similarly, notability is not popularity; tracks should not be added only on grounds of their chart positions or sales records (although this may be used as part of the justification for the tracks' notability).

To start off with, I am proposing the following criteria for notability against which candidate tracks may be evaluated. This list is not conclusive, and I strongly encourage any contributions to how it may be improved.

  • the number of compilations the track appears on
  • the number of remixes that the track has enjoyed from leading artists
  • the frequency of its inclusion in sets played by leading DJs
  • its influence on the evolution of the trance genre in general or a subgenre in particular
  • (non-exclusively) a measure of the track's popularity

Finally, all claims and statements must be referenced against an authoritative source. Any additions which are either unreferenced or fail to meet the above criteria for notability will be immediately removed.
