Welcome to my talk page. I love the Wikipedia and I want to make some pages better. I'm convinced that my inputs will help others, so if you think that my input was irrelevant, THINK TWICE!

Sometimes I was in contact with heavy users here on Wikipedia and they thought they could say what is relevant for all readers of Wikipedia. I say nobody can judge for the world. As long as a change is correct and might help some other readers, accept the change!

1983 24 Hours of Le Mans

Thanks, and this an explanation that I accept (rather than just "irrelevant"). So as far as I understand, you would accept a whole new chapter about participating drivers, special attendances? I would love to write that and contribute. While having more than 30 books about Le Mans, I just think that the summaries on Wikipedia about the Le Mans races are too thin and do not honor this historic race.

So before I write that chapter (starting with 1983), i would like to have your OK, as I don't want to waste my time in writing a summary that just gets rejected with a simple "irrelevant" comment. Looking forward to your reply. --Arnage⁷₄ (Talk) 11:08, 30 May 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not an endless encyclopedia of factoids. Although Nick Mason's participation at Le Mans is relevant and mentioned quite clearly in his own article, we do not need footnotes or redundant instances mentioning that a drummer participated in the race. In the grand picture of the race and the article, the factoid is irrelevant as it stands. If you were to include a paragraph or two on notable participants in the race, as in all major notabable participants, then a mention of Mason's participation would be relevent in that context. Making a special stand out for one specific person who is participating on an amateur level simply because he is famous for things outside of the race is overzealous and, as I said, irrelevant. As it stands, the article currently has no special notes about Prince Leopold of Bavaria (b. 1943), a member of a royal family, Steve O'Rourke, a record producer and also someone associated Pink Floyd, nor the two women participating in the race. This all of course ignores that there are no special notes for the multiple drivers who are well known for actual driving achivements in their careers. See WP:TRIVIA for further explanation.

So no, your edit will not be returned by me. Your motivation is understood, but misplaced. Your edit did not make the article "better", it simply was adding a factoid. If you wanted to make the article better, some prose about the background of the 1983 race and its drivers would be far superior to a footnote. The³5₉ (Talk) 09:56, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
