Hughes Space and Communications Company

edit

Hello to all of the individuals that edit and look at Hughes Aircraft Company. I noticed that many of you have changed the Space and Communications part.

Many have put down as Hughes Space & Communications Group, yes - indeed it was a group along with Hughes Space Systems Division. However, remember the following information;

Hughes Space and Communications Company was formed as a subsidiary of Hughes Aircraft in 1961 following the merger of the company's Space and Communications Group and the Hughes Space Systems Division.

So from 1961 to 2000 it was called Hughes Space & Communications Company until its sale to Boeing. That's why I keep changing it from GROUP to COMPANY.

I hope this make plenty of sense.

Thanks,

Anthony

The problem is the page was a copy and paste of copyrighted material. You are welcome to write your own article or to paraphrase the source in question. However simply duplicating the information is not acceptable. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for getting back to me. Mark83 14:34, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for getting back to me. Have you considered that Hughes Aircraft contains a lot of relevant information and hence having the info at both locations is duplication? Anyway, to answer your question, to take one paragraph:
"Much of the recent success of Hughes was credited to CEO Michael Armstrong, who took over in 1992. Armstrong set clear goals for the company, demanding that it be either number one or number two in any market it entered. He slashed jobs, backed DirecTV, and focused the company on lucrative commercial business. Soon after, industry analysts began to speculate that GM might be ready to sell the company. The advances in automotive electronics that GM had hoped for when it bought Hughes in 1985 still had not come to fruition, and there seemed to be little reason for the auto giant to hold on to the company. GM filed a document allowing it to divest Hughes in March 1996. Then in January 1997 news broke that GM was selling the defense portion of Hughes to Raytheon. GM next consolidated the Delco portion of Hughes with another of its automotive electronics companies, Delphi."
Can be paraphrased as:
After reforms by CEO Michael Armstrong (including job cuts, the expansion of DirecTV and a refocus on the company's successful satellite and telecoms businesses) GM prepared to divest Hughes businesses. GM did not achieve the synergies and technology transfer between its Hughes subsidiary and its car business that it hoped. In January 1997 all of the defense businesses of Hughes Electronics (including Delco Systems Operations) were merged with Raytheon, and the commercial portion of Delco Electronics was transferred to GM's Delphi Automotive Systems business.
By the way you can sign your talk page posts with four ~~~~. That way your posts are timed and dated and also linked, i.e. a link to your username (it's more convenient for others). I hope I have helped. Mark83 19:52, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
