Request reason:

Hi, I believe my account was "banned" due to malicious edits that were not made by me, but were made by account due to a poor password issue. Hopefully I will be able to prove myself here on wikipedia, either way thanks for your time.

Decline reason:

Your theory is an interesting one, but given that this account has never been used to make a useful edit, and has vandalized on several different days, I think it is more probable that you are indeed a vandal. If not, the password problem that causes this account to make only vandal edits makes it necessary to leave it blocked. — FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 23:55, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

in reply to your clause for the blocking of my account, i have updated my account with a safer password, and the reason which i care to keep this account is because andycook is my real name, and id very much like to make some valid corrections, and expansions of incorrect pages and stubs. I don't really have any proof, nor do I expect anyone to believe that my real name is the name of this account, but i can assure you that i wouldn't take the time to get my account back if i planned to vandalize wikipedia. I hope there is some way that i can prove that my intentions here are for the greater good, as i would be very pleased to be welcomed into the wikipedia community. anyways, sorry for any wasted time.

Let me check if User:Ioeth, who originally blocked you, would be ok with an unblock. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:09, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Okay, thank you very much. --AndyCook (talk) 07:16, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

something which...

okay here is a simple example of something which i plan, or would plan (if i dont get unblocked, to fix... 503 articales link to "Category:-importance_Geology_articles" so all those pages should be updated with the correct category...

just a simple example of something which i could spend my time doing when i am bored, which is when id be doing most of my edits to insure i wasn't distracted.

I see what you mean. Actually, the articles at Category:-importance Geology articles just need a null edit done to move them to Category:Unknown-importance Geology articles. I am going to request a bot do it (it seems like a waste of time for someone to take care of). However, I will make sure to mention this to Ioeth if he asks. It looks good that you are paying attention to something so relatively trivial. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I don't know what it is about sorting and collecting data, is just something that makes me able to be calm and relaxed, I don't really understand why because for most people I believe its stressful, but i don't question in. lol =] --AndyCook (talk) 07:25, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

PRE: Norwegian_refugee_council edit

This is an example of me wikify'ing [1] Feel free to comment on what i have changed, areas needing improvement, and mistakes i have made with my edit.

Norwegian_Refugee_Council

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) (Norwegian: Flyktninghjelpen) is an independent, humanitarian non-governmental organisation which provides assistance, protection and durable solutions to refugees, internally displaced persons, and returnees worldwide. NRC promotes and protects the rights of people who have been forced to flee their countries, or their homes within their countries. It is the only Norwegian organisation that specialises in international efforts aimed at this target group.

History

The Norwegian Refugee Council was established in 1946 under the name Aid to Europe, to assist refugees in Europe after World War II. Today NRC is organised as an independent, private foundation. They work closely with the UN and other organizations.

In 1998 the Norwegian Refugee Council established the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) in Geneva. The IDMC contributes to improving national and international capacities to protect the assist of the millions of people around the globe who have been displaced within their own country as a result of conflicts or human rights violations.

Program activities

The Norwegian Refugee Councils actions are concentrated on five core activities:

  • Building of homes and schools
  • Distribution of food and non-food relief items
  • Information, counselling and legal assistance
  • Camp management
  • Education

In Norway NRC provides information and counselling on return and repatriation. The organisation also conduct trainings and seminars on the situation for refugees and IDPs.

I have show an example of an edit which i am capable of above, hopefully this is of length and quality to show that my intentions here are for the greater good.

Decline reason:

I am unimpressed. This is nearly no improvement over the current version of Norwegian Refugee Council. — Sandstein (talk) 22:21, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Pre: Secure transmission edit

Secure transmission is part of Wikipedia:Missing_science_topics/List_of_coding_terms

Secure transmission

In Computer science, Secure Transmission refers to the transfer of data such as confidential or proprietary information over a secure channel. Many secure transmission methods requirer a type of encryption. The most common email encryption is called PKI. In order to open the encrypted file an exchange of Keys is done.

Many infrastructures such as banks reply on secure transmission protocols to prevent a catastrophic failure of the company. Secure transmissions are put in place to prevent attacks such as ARP_spoofing and general data loss. To attempt to detect and prevent the unauthorized transmission of information from the computer systems, to an organization to outsiders may be referred to by Information Leak Detection & Prevention (ILDP), Information Leak Prevention (ILP), Content Monitoring and Filtering (CMF) or Extrusion Prevention System and are used in connection with other methods to insure secure transmission of data.

Wireless infrastructures secure transmission

Main articale: Wired Equivalent Privacy

WEP is a deprecated algorithm to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. Wireless networks broadcast messages using radio, so are more susceptible to eavesdropping than wired networks. When introduced in 1999, WEP was intended to provide confidentiality comparable to that of a traditional wired network.

Web-based Secure transmissions

Main article: secure socket layer

Transport Layer Security (TLS) and its predecessor, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), are cryptographic protocols that provide secure communications on the Internet for such things as web browsing, e-mail, Internet faxing, instant messaging and other data transfers. There are slight differences between SSL and TLS, but they are substantially the same.

Post Secure transmission edit

clearly lots can still be added but this is a simple start, which i hope to be able to put into place pending approval.
