Why this page

edit

There have been a number of incidents involving both Boeing and Airbus airliners where crashes and near-crashes have been produced by sensor or computer failures. Understandably, the aircraft and airline industries are reluctant to publicise the details.

While Wikipedia is not the place to publish original research into this, I think we can make it easier for those who do wish to research it to access the considerable amount of information we do already have. When I tried to do such research myself, I found it hard to access this information, despite Wikipedia having it.

If someone does publish a reliable secondary source on the topic, or if we find such existing sources (I suspect they are there), then an article may be possible.

Meantime, a list in the mainspace and/or a category would both be helpful IMO. This page is to help investigate those possibilities. Links to relevant Wikipedia pages go on the user page. Signed comments of course go on this talk page. Feel free to create new sections or subsections. All pages belong to the project.

Suggestions for a better name for the list, or a name for the category, would be particularly welcome. Andrewa (talk) 03:54, 29 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

There are two possible reasons for such situations.

Obviously, if the fly-by-wire or similar systems deny the pilot control, that is such a situation, and this has led to incidents.

But also, if the cockpit displays and audio messages give misleading information, that has also led to incidents.

Both can occur and have occurred owing to bad design and/or programming of the cockpit systems and/or flight controls.

This page should deal with both. Andrewa (talk) 23:21, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
