Hi Ladies, I am having difficulty finding research on Neustadt. I went to the library today and could not find anything. I found a couple of websites but I'm not sure if they are sufficient. Does it matter what sources we use or do they have to be scholarly? Here are the websites: [1] [2]

@ Gina: I don't think they have to be scholarly as long as we can prove that our information is accurate. Also, I've had the same problem, all I was able to find was those websites and a a book called:

Neustadt : the story of an Ontario village Author Wegg, Telfer. Date c1995

I requested it this morning from the UTL at Downsview library and it will arrive to utm hopefully by friday morning. --Andreavillar (talk) 15:53 , 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi everyone, Gianette and I decided yesterday to focus our work on only some aspects of this village. We can start by editing the history section for now until we get more research done. --Andreavillar (talk) 15:09 , 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Andrea the information placed in the sandbox is that your own words or was it copy pasted from a website? - Gina C

@ Gina, its basically the same as the original page

--Andreavillar (talk) 15:11 , 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi all - just catching up here :) 2 questions I'll need you to ask on Thursday as I will not be in class (I will also post a note in knowledge base on Blackboard)

  1. 1. Is there a word count we're aiming for?
  2. 2. how many references do we require on page?

once we have that clarified, it will clear up our lack of references issue above - keep in mind that this is a very, very small town, so the two websites and the book above might be all we need. Neustadt is part of a larger municipality, like the GTA, but on a much smaller scale. West Grey Municpality [[3]] Also note that we can highlight the services listed on the town [[4]]as well if we feel the need to beef out our entry beyond "History" of the town. Once I have that information, I can put together a workback schedule (a document assigning responsibilities for each sections, with due dates/times).

Thanks ladies!

--TinaP 123 (talk) 22:38, 8 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Tina I will be sure to ask Bryan today in tutorial and I like the idea of highlighting the services offered. -Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 14:48, 9 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi everyone :) , I took the time to divide our work into 4 different sections as you can see on my sandbox page:

Tina= Introduction; Andrea= History; Saba= Historic sites; Gina= Community service.

Gina and I thought it would be a better idea if just focus on editing each our sections first and then edit each others work. If you ladies wish to switch topics, please let me know by tomorrow morning because I'd like to start doing my research in the afternoon.

@ Tina, we also asked Bryan your questions and he said that there really isn't a limit to how much we should write or how many references we use ;As long as we do a good job by editing each section the rest won't matter.

--Andreavillar (talk) 23:14 , 9 August 2012 (UTC)

@Andrea Great, works for me then, Introduction it is! Should have this ready for editing this weekend, will confirm when it's been uploaded. Thanks!

Okay perfect! Then we can all get started :) Wish you all good luck in finding information for our topic and also on our term paper!! And please keep me posted with all the changes you ladies wish to make. Thank you :)

--Andreavillar (talk) 14:14 , 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey so am I doing historic sites within the city? and is there already a section containing information or do i have to look it all up? Also, when should we be done editing? - Saba

@Saba yep, there is a section on that in the sandbox but it would be great if u could add more to it & preferably latest by Sunday night -Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 20:42, 10 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey ladies, I found some more websites to aid in our writing process, hope this helps! [5]; [6] -Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 21:54, 10 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ Gina, thanks for the sites!!! :)

@Saba, go onto my sandbox and you'll see there I've divided it into four different sections and yours its under history.

Also I have now the book I requested a few days ago so if I find anything that relates to your topics I will let you know. --Andreavillar (talk) 18:07 , 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi ladies I started updating the intro in Andrea's sandbox, I want to update pictures, but I'm not sure how to go about it, has anyone else figure out how? And I accidently signed the sandbox page, like we do in her and am uncertain as how to remove that...

TinaP 123 (talk) 00:56, 13 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

Hi Ladies, Just wanted to also inquire as to how we can link other websites to our page? For the community service section, I would like the links to be accessible so people can further read about the attractions and services the town offers

Thanks! - Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 01:03, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi All Hi Girls Just a heads up that I will not be in class - but am available online if you have any questions for me. I have put a general intro up on Andrea's sandbox for you to take a look at. Feel free to run it by Bryan and see if he has any comments and then please let me know what the outcome is. I am available tonight for edits so if you could please shoot me an email when a section has been completed, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks T 74.213.173.35 (talk) 16:19, 14 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@tina I will ask Bryan to take a look at your section in tutorial. Just want to inform you ladies, I will be available to contact all day tomorrow till 8:00 pm. - Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 18:15, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ladies @ Tina, I just spoke with Bryan in regards to your section and he mentioned to me that it'll probably be good if you add an extra section or contribute to one of ours since we should aim at about 2 paragraphs per section and yours only has one.

--Andreavillar (talk) 15:40 , 14 August 2012 (UTC)

@Andrea Thanks! Will aim to get another one completed. Does anyone have one they'd like me to review? Thanks TinaP 123 (talk) 23:39, 14 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

Hii Tina, no problem :) !!! so I just finished work right now but I'll have my section done by tomorrow morning for sure!! --Andreavillar (talk) 23:19 , 8 August 2012 (UTC)

@andrea - submission information

Need to email Bryan: Cover page (Topic, group name, tut sec,TA name, name of members in group,Wikipedia group name) He needs: Screen shot of the before and after state(Copy paste the text and highlight the changes that were made) -Include a copy of the spokesperson's sandbox -Include copy of the talk page as well as the talk page of the sandbox

  • This all needs to be emailed to Bryan before 1:00 pm tomorrow.

-Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 16:00, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@andrea I have one paragraph, but I will try to add a bit more to it. I will also provide external links that offer more description on community service. I will complete this and put it in the sandbox sometime today, sound good?

Gina C — Preceding unsigned comment added by Glucii (talkcontribs) 16:10, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ Gina, Thank you so much!!!! I will email him all these details before 1 tomorrow. And as I said before to Gina, Bryan told me yesterday after you left that we should aim for at least 2 paragraphs but if yours its longer than the one Gina wrote then its okay.

I'm still working on my paragraphs. But I have a problem. The information that was already written on my section does not have any references... What should I should do? Because I thought of just putting the book I got from the library as the only reference since it has pretty much the same information but would that be considered as plagiarism?

--Andreavillar (talk) 13:20 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

I just also realized that we do not have a reference list!! Does anyone know how to create one????

--Andreavillar (talk) 13:47 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@andrea Alright, i will make it longer. If you provide the citation for the book i don't think it should be a problem. I will take a look at how to do a reference list as well. Gina C Glucii (talk) 18:28, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ Tina, I just finished writing my section, I did a total of 3 paragraphs so maybe you can help me edit them instead of having to write another section??

--Andreavillar (talk) 16:18 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@ Gina yepp that sounds good. I already emailed Bryan and asked him to help us make a reference list because we do need one for the article or else we can lose marks for not having one.

--Andreavillar (talk) 16:24 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Ladies here is how to cite references [7] & Andrea I can help edit your paragraphs Glucii (talk) 21:05, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ Gina, Oh great ! I'll start using the reference section right now, i'll let you know if i can make it work. And of course you're welcome to help me edit my paragraphs just let me know what are the things you'll change :)

@tina or @Andrea i'm having trouble trying to cite let me know if it works for you and how you did it. I will take a look at your section now and let you know what if there's any changes that should be made Glucii (talk) 21:46, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@tina - Looks good on my end, just added a period. Also, what is the purpose of the orange underlined words? I clicked on it and noticed that it takes me to an advertisement. How can we eliminate that? Glucii (talk) 21:57, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

ladies - I found the format for the references [8] Also, I formatted the page more neatly and completed my section. If someone could look over and edit the community service section that would be great. Unfortunately, I will not be at the computer tonight so if you need to reach me send me an email and I will respond tomorrow morning! See you ladies in lecture! Glucii (talk) 22:20, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ Gina, I just finished fixing the reference list because the way you did it wasn't quite right but every time you wish to cite something on the reference list just scroll up to the top where it says template and then pick the source you want to cite ( it could it be a book or whatever is it that you used to get your information from) then fill in the all the information required and click on where it says insert. After that, it will automatically be cited on the reference list :) --Andreavillar (talk) 18:24 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@ Gina Also , i read your paragraph and it sounds more like your advertising the village instead of narrating it... like where it says "To find out more information and stay updated on the towns monthly events and gatherings view the external links." I'd recommend you change the parts where you say " Also, tourists must visit" or " Visit the Neustadt Springs Brewery" and make it more like you're telling a story.

--Andreavillar (talk) 18:44 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@Andrea - not sure what you mean by orange underlined words, I don't see them on my end???

174.119.252.89 (talk) 23:38, 15 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@ Tina- oh i think she meant the number 1 you have in your paragraph... cause everytime we click on it, it takes us to a different site

--Andreavillar (talk) 20:16 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@Andrea - weird...I just referenced a few things in my paragraph, I'll try again TinaP 123 (talk) 00:29, 16 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@ tina- yeah its not there anymore. can we start editing other people's work then? how about i try editing Tina's paragraph and you can start revising mine?

@ Saba- If you're having difficulty trying to find information about your section. Let me know because the book i have has a lot of interesting points on historic sites and other related topics.

--Andreavillar (talk) 20:41 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@Andrea I just removed the square brackets aroung Neustadt in the John Wienert paragragh as it linked out to Neustadt Germany. Also, just changed German speaker to German speaking in the 1st History paragraph

TinaP 123 (talk) 00:44, 16 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@Everyone Harrow Smith magazine was already in the intro when I started, I was going to reference it, but I can't find it online....suggestions? ***Nevermind, just noticed that the magazine ceased publication in 2011, so we'll leave it as just linking to the wikipage for Harrowsmith TinaP 123 (talk) 00:56, 16 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

'@Gina & Andrea I edited including a Library in Gina's section to link out the the library's webpage. Did you want to use that one instead of the one you used later on in the paragraph? TinaP 123 (talk) 01:03, 16 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@ Tina Yep that's good. You can change as much as you think its necessary. Thank you :) I think you can just put the magazine name and its date ( April 2000) or if you want you can email Bryan and ask him I am sure he'll tell you what to do.

Also what should we do about the informative table at the top-right ? All the information there isn't cited. does that mean we have to find new sources??? --Andreavillar (talk) 21:14 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@ Tina- we can use the first library because the second only has a picture of the place. --Andreavillar (talk) 21:21 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@Tina - Maybe we can use that library picture in our article. Do you know how to upload pictures to wikipedia? I tried to but it seemed pretty complicated.

--Andreavillar (talk) 21:24 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

'@Andrea I haven't been able to get the upload picture to work. I was also wondering about the informative table, thought it was lacking something. Let's give it a try.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by TinaP 123 (talkcontribs) 01:31, 16 August 2012 (UTC) Reply

@Andrea I somehow managed to get the map in - by going to Hanover, Ontario and copying the code + changing the long and lat....but I'm getting an error, can you take a look at the code? TinaP 123 (talk) 02:03, 16 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@ Tina Yes I am trying to find the code but i can't find it let me keep looking for it

--Andreavillar (talk) 22:20 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@ Tina I know how to upload pictures now!! :D I just uploaded one but I think its too big so I am going to change it to smaller one. Also about the map code you just copied. I don't think we are allowed to do that cause for wikipedia that is more like plagiarism so it could be deleted any time. But you can post the link to the picture here and I will upload right away.

--Andreavillar (talk) 23:06 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

@ Tina I am trying to deleted the map and I can't find its code. Can you please do it for me so I can reupload it?

--Andreavillar (talk) 23:34 , 15 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey everyone. Sorry for being MIA on this project thus far. But i'll be done my part in about an hour. I was wondering if someone could edit it. Also, how different does it have to be from the original? because i'm using information from what is provided as well as adding what i've researched. Does the text have to be completely different in our own words? Lastly, how do we cite the sources we obtained information from? And would you like me to add pictures too? - Saba

@ Tina- Hey so I finally found the code and got rid of the map :) I'll try to upload a better map in a few minutes. Also I found the website about the magazine quote you were telling me about: http://www.neustadt.ca/101/neustadt/index.htm Its the description above the picture at the top. Maybe you could use that website as a reference instead of the magazine.

@Saba- As i already explained to Gina, you can find it at the top where it says templates then pick the type of source you used to get your information ( web, book, etc) Enter the information that's being asked and click on insert. After that save your work and your citation will appear on the reference list. This of course has to be done in my sandbox, not the original article. It doesn't have to be completely different from the original one but you do have to organize it better and change the wording a bit. And sure I can upload one picture for your section that wouldn't be a problem.

@ Everyone, I'm planning to send the email to Bryan at 12:30 the latest so if you need to finish something please do it before 11:30 because I don't want to deal with any last minute edits...Thanks :)

--Andreavillar (talk) 00:51 , 16 August 2012 (UTC)

@ everyone, can you ladies please give me your full name so I can put them in title page?

Gina i just edited your paragraph but left the one you wrote there and the one i added is below yours. Feel free to edit the one i did if you'd like --Andreavillar (talk) 08:12, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Andrea, hey full name is Saba Khan. Another question about the referencing. When it says fill in 1st and last name, do i put in my name? what does it mean by work? and what is ref name and group? sorry for all the questions! :s — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saba Khan 91 (talkcontribs) 08:31, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ saba, noope they're asking for the author's name so if its a book you would put last name: Wegg - Name : Telfer

And only fill it with the information your source offers so if it doesn't have work then don't even worry about that but make sure if its a website you put the url --Andreavillar (talk) 08:38, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@ everyone Sorry i could not be available to reach late last night. I will edit my section further before 12:30 & thanks for the edits ladies Glucii (talk) 13:47, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Andrea I don't know about the plagarism part you were talking about? The code showed how to insert the flags and the flags are the same as it's Canada and Ontario? Should we reference government website then>? StatsCan perhaps? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.213.173.35 (talk) 15:05, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Andrea BTW pics look great, but they need to be cited 74.213.173.35 (talk) 15:08, 16 August 2012 (UTC)TinaP_123Reply

@Andrea Cited my work...good to go! Glucii (talk) 15:13, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

@Tina Yep that's okay! Oh its because when you upload pictures to wikipedia they ask you for a whole bunch of questions and copying and pasting codes from article to article is considered plagiarism. And i already cited all the pictures there is a number beside each photo and every time you click on it, it takes you to the reference list.

@ Everyone Thanks for contributing to this article ladies. I think it looks awesome! :) --Andreavillar (talk) 15:17, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
