Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School

The name Immanuel Shifidi [1] is indelible in the history of Namibia's struggle against apartheid and today a senior secondary school in Katutura- Dolam location, namely Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School is named in honour of Immanuel Shifidi after he was assassinated in 1986.


Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School was the first school is Katutura and dates back to over 33 years and was formerly known as Katutura Secondary School [2].


The school currently has a staff component of 31 Teachers and the current Principal is Mr. Herman Katjiuongua. The learners enrolled from Grade 8 to Grade 12 amounts to 1008 learners.


The learners of the school are not only excelling academically but are also involved in other extra curricula activities such as sports and culture. The school is known for its victories nature in the First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) Classis Clashes amongst secondary school in Windhoek and learners were awarded the opportunity with free tickets from FNB to go and watch the FNB Global United Climate Kick 2012 game on Saturday17 March, at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, in “FNB’s Learning through play” initiative [3].


The school also has a Facebook profile [4] and famous kwaito artists such as Mushe from “Exit & Mushe” schooled at Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School [5].

Another iconic figure who matriculated at Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School is Owen Shaamena who was a leading figure in the Namibian National Students Organisation (NANSO) before and after Namibia's Independence [6] . Mr. Owen passed away on July 4, 2007 and was laid to rest at Omhedi in the Ohangwena Region on July 14, 2007.
