Hi I'm a bit lost. I was attempting to update the John Thackara wiki page with more detailed and up to date information. I also thought that this would solve the issues indicated in the template box. Having done this I removed the box. Did I make a faux-pas in doing this ? As it has been put back, obviously I have not solved the problems. Can some one be more specific and perhaps give me a concrete idea of what inline citations might be missing. Also I wished to change the photograph on the page to a more actual one. But to no avail. any advice? Should I include external links to websites held by organisations, institutions and associations Mr Thackara advises??? I have read the wiki help pages and information on when and how to remove template boxes but it would seem I did not clearly understand? Thank you for your help Allscat (talk) 10:15, 22 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

How to do it...

edit

Hi Allscat. I'm in a similar situation of not really having come to grips with what the best Wikipedia style is. But FWIW, I think what they are on about is, for example, finding as many reliable sources from all over the place (probably the web) and using those as references to confirm all the detail one puts in. I don't think that the Wikipedia gurus like stuff added purely on the authority of the person in question. It has to be published somewhere creditable.

Having said that you're doing a great job helping to document this very interesting person. Have a chat if you like. I'm not hard to find... Simon Grant (talk) 10:29, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
