Hello, I'm Robby.is.on. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, The Rifles (band), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:48, 19 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at The Rifles (band), without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Robby.is.on (talk) 10:12, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Robby.is.on I did not add the reliable sources as they are already there in the reference section - Rifles.net and everyhit.com. It was also felt to be a minor update. Hopefully you can readd the changes.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Allmodcons1978 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply, Allmodcons1978. Citations should be placed inline (Wikipedia:Inline citation) like you did with the Discogs references. Discogs, however, is not considered a reliable sources here; see its entry at WP:RSP. For bands, newspaper articles can be great sources. I found two articles from NME mentioning the fifth studio album and added it. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:13, 9 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello again. Thanks for including references with the additions at The Rifles (band). References from the band's labels are primary sources; secondary sources such as a newspapers or magazines are preferable. See WP:RSPRIMARY. Words like "legendary", "stunning" have no place in an encyclopaedia and other wording was also rather flowery. I have trimmed these parts. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and MOS:PEACOCK. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 21:15, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

So, it turns out the descriptions were not just unencyclopaedic in tone but you also copied them from the label websites. We cannot do that here, copying copyrighted content can get Wikipedia in legal trouble. Please see Wikipedia:Copyright violations. Please make yourself familiar with the basic tenets of Wikipedia editing before making further contributions. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:22, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks and apologies again. I did try and read up on the rules etc but so much info to take it all in. I thought by getting the facts from reliable sources would have been better than tweets etc. I also thought that by copying the exact wording but including a reference was enough to prevent a copyright violation. As I said, apologies. I was just trying to get the correct info out on this band as the page has been out of date for so long. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Allmodcons1978 (talkcontribs) 19:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, don't worry, indeed there is lot to learn and it takes a while to get the hang of things. I'm happy to help if you're interested in making further additions to the Rifles article or other ones. And it's a good thing the Rifles article isn't as out-of-date anymore as it was. So thanks again. :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 20:03, 13 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
