Re-write to meet standards and expand article

edit

I am new to wiki-writing so I am looking for proofing before posting, specifically in regards to references (where do I need them). I am also re-writing the article on electronic navigation charts which will complement this article. Also, I would like to understand the copyright and advertising issues better, as I have named products and would like to include pictorial examples.

First Review

edit

I believe this is a pretty good introduction to an article. However, I'd like to have a lot of the existing information merged into what you have right now. Also, there is a lot of mention regarding specific brands and equipment models, especially price. This makes the article sound more like a product description than an actual encyclopedia article regarding that type of product as a whole. I'd try to steer clear of that. I believe with a few tweaks and a couple of formatting changes, this sandbox article will be able to be deployed soon. - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 06:31, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I tried really hard not to leave anything out that was in the original article, so I'd appreciate specifics. At least in regards to the electronic chart section, I feel it makes the most sense that ENC's have their own entry. I'm going to be rewriting that too.
  • I only mentioned those couple brands because they are so unique. Admittadly, I approached the article more like a buyers guide than an encyclopedic entry, so I certainly understand removing names and price ranges. Would it be appropriate to leave in the features that come with additional expense?
  • Formatting in terms of topic arraignment or content?
  • I didn't realize that users had their own sandboxes. Thank you.

Users utilize sandboxes all the time. Just look at my list... User:Jamesontai/Sandbox. We generally don't like to see buyer's guides on Wikipedia. I don't want to link-dump you on Wikipedia policies, but since you're relatively new at this, click on my userpage. Near the top right side, you'll see a list of key Wikipedia Policies and Guidelines. You may want to brush up on it so you don't get your hard work reverted.  :) I actually was on IRC last night seeking a couple people to help you with this besides myself because I'm actually nearing the end of my vacation and I'm getting ready to head back home - so I may not be the most active Wikipedian to help you at the moment. Let me see who I can find you help you. - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 20:58, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
