Your username

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Adirondack Trust Company, and I noticed that your username, "AdkTrust", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 19:52, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:53, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hello - I am looking for some further guidance please. I tried complying with the steps outlined to be unblocked, but have not received a reply as to whether they are satisfactory, or need additional steps, or perhaps my account will never be unblocked. I feel like I'm in a bit of limbo here, and am trying in good faith to meet Wikipedia's guidelines. Any response / clarification / assistance would be appreciated. I first suggested a new username (below) that was deemed acceptable, but the other steps (COI disclosure and removal of flagged edit) I can't make because I'm blocked from editing the page. I'm not sure how I can proceed - if at all. Thank you. ~~~ Adk Trust AdkTrust (talk) 13:20, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Did not understand the username restriction; just wanted to make third-party sourced historical additions to the page, while not hiding the affiliation

Decline reason:

That would be an acceptable new username, but your username is only one small aspect of the block. You must address your inappropriate edits and violation of WP:COI and WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 01:12, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have added the COI to this page, but am not able to do so on the Adirondack Trust page because of the block. It also wasn't noted which edits were considered inappropriate, so I'm not able to address those directly. Thank you. If you would please let me know what further steps I need to take, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. AdkTrust (talk) 16:06, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

/* Adk Trust*/ I am attempting to change the username to comply with the guidance provided, and have added a COI disclaimer to my talk page. I would be happy to add the COI to the Adirondack Trust page, and remove the flagged edit, if I can be unblocked. My goal is to provide historical context and background, using third-party citations.
