User talk:Adambiswanger1/Image POV

Hmmm, very insightful Adam. You made me realize that I actually have an unconcious bias on this topic. When I hit an article about a city I generally expect to see its "best face". So my first reaction is that you're right...there is bias. I can see a number of arguments that might favor this bias:

  1. Readers want to see the famous landmarks
  2. They want to see the the pretty pictures of skylines and coasts
  3. If you try to insert a picture of a French-Muslim slum in the article about Paris you would seriously get your ass kicked :)

I'd like to explore this...more later --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 22:02, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

By French people? I think not... they might yell at me, though AdamBiswanger1 23:25, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
LOL, my mistake. --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 00:30, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cities & Pictures We Need edit

Chicago, needs at least one picture of a homeless person muttering inchorently while they try to cadge enough spare change to alter their conciousness even further. I would also suggest including a photo array of "Chicago politicians who have been convicted of crimes committed while in office", but even on WP, there's just not enough room. --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 00:30, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're in luck b/c that just happens to be my wallpaper! AdamBiswanger1 01:20, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

USA edit

Chicago
I liked Chicago--just went to the tourist areas, though.
New York City-
litter, A chinese storefront selling light-up pens and cell-phone covers
Oklahoma City-
Boring city streets
Philadelphia-
litter, Pigeons picking at a street-vendor's pretzels
Phoenix-
ppressive heat, more litter
St. Louis-
derilect trailer parks with no sidewalks

Everywhere else edit

Curacao (Dutch Antilles) - Sure the coastline architecture is pretty, but how about an image of all the rusted out fishing trawlers which were bankrupted due to disastrous overfishing and destruction of marine habitat?

Big picture edit

Now that I think of it, we should probably get the idea out there, rather than coming up with specific examples, because obviously we can't request specific images, and we can't make all of the changes ourselves. I don't want to make too big of a deal of this little idea, but maybe I'll contact Jimbo Wales to see what he thinks. He's good with "big picture" stuff. AdamBiswanger1 15:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
