While I am here, let me disillusion you of the idea that I have some sort of ulterior motive. I'm a white 21 year old from the northeastern United States, and the status of one particular caste in India has a very minimal impact on me personally. I care in the sense of John Donne about these people, but I have nothing to gain or lose from promoting one caste or putting down another. Indeed, my interests in history are the Ainu people and the Karen people, both maligned populations who are viciously discriminated against.
