USS Hornet debate edit

If the CV-12's recommissioning was only a ceremonial act, then why was their officers of the US Navy present, including a (retired) Navy chaplain and Navy reservists ordered to man the Hornet? Why did then the plankholders of the CV-8 and CV-12 present at the recommissioning the ceremonial ship's log and glasses? And if it was only a ceremonial act, why was an official commissioning pennant hoisted in proper manner? I'd like some explanation how much you know about the 1998 recommissioning ceremony. I've read the program from the ceremony and saw a video about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jok13vWbOmw 68.236.155.234 (talk) 09:01, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Check the US Naval Vessel Register http://www.nvr.navy.mil/nvrships/details/CVS12.htm. The Hornet is not listed as an active ship and still remains stricken as it has been since 1989. The ceremony you are referring to was simply part of the 5/26/98 ceremonial transfer to her new owners at the now USS Hornet Museum, nothing more. She has not been "recommissioned" in any Navy and is still properly referred to as "ex-Hornet" when talking about her in a commissioned vessel sense. You'll also note the Navy officially considers her "disposed", not "in commission." Gateman1997 (talk) 15:58, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
