Recovering a deleted image
editHello! I’d already typed the following when you removed your request from the noticeboard—it may be superfluous now, but just in case something like it comes up again …
The image was deleted as a copyright violation, so I don’t think any admin will undelete it, even temporarily. The deletion log doesn’t say anything about the source or evidence; Future Perfect at Sunrise may remember something about it, but I wouldn’t expect him to, two and a half years later … OTOH an admin may be willing to peek at the file page to see if it there’s a source URL there. Failing that, I would advise you to ask the copyright holder (or an authorized representative) to contact WP:OTRS; it would be an unusual request, but if the volunteers there can be satisfied of the person’s identity and ownership of the rights (evidence for which being kept confidential), they may be able to retrieve and send the image via e-mail or some other off-wiki means. Of course if the person is able & willing to release the image under a free licence, the file can simply be restored to public view in routine fashion, with our gratitude.—Odysseus1479 02:54, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
Oh hi OberRanks, having fun socking again, are we? See User:Future Perfect at Sunrise/OberRanks#File:SeaDefenseZoneMap.jpg for this particular image. Fut.Perf. ☼ 07:03, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- Future Perfect at Sunrise, this block seems a bit excessive. I don't have the history with OberRanks that you do, but you've blocked a good chunk of IPs allocated to NARA, and I really can't see why OberRanks would post that request to ANI and then taking it down 45 minutes later. - Well, he's certainly been using a bunch of these fairly regularly, most definitely 207.245.177.3, 207.245.177.11, 207.245.177.31, 207.245.177.13 and 207.245.177.21. I'm pretty certain that was him again right now. But anyway, I've lifted the rangeblock again; maybe we can try a narrower one the next time he tries this. Fut.Perf. ☼ 15:40, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- I made mention of this event at WP:AN: the thread is at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#National Archives & Records Administration again— Diannaa (talk) 21:21, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
