United States support for ISIS edit

Hello! Thank you for your edits to this article and for joining the conversation on the talk page. Regarding your edit here removing "by Russia and Iran" from "The United States has been accused by Russia and Iran of providing support to ISIS..." with the edit summary citing the BBC and Al Jazeera articles: those articles do not say that the US "supported" ISIS. The BBC article is about a deal to let ISIS fighters escape from a city on one occasion–this is not the same thing as "supporting" ISIS, and the BBC doesn't say that it is. The Al Jazeera article, similarly, is about ISIS using US weapons; it doesn't say that the US "supported" ISIS or even that the US is giving ISIS those weapons intentionally. The only people who say that the US "supports" ISIS are the governments of Russia and Iran through their state run media (which are not reliable sources anyway) and WP:FRINGE sources repeating them. I think it's important to specify this in the lead of the article, and I would ask you to self-revert and restore the content.

Also, this article is under general sanctions with a 1RR restriction, meaning you can only make one revert per day (see the article's talk page for details), and your edit I linked to above is a second revert within 24 hours. So, I would ask you to self-revert for this reason alone.

Wikipedia's practice is to place a general sanctions notice to properly advise all editors about general sanctions, so I will place a notice on your talk page here. Please note, I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, and I understand if you weren't aware of the general sanctions and 1RR rule because nobody placed the notice on your talk page yet. However, now that you have been notified, you should be careful about not reverting more than once per day on this article, and I would encourage you to self-revert your second revert today. Thanks.

Please read this notification carefully, it contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, such as United States support for ISIS, which you have recently edited. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.
