September 2021 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Kate (film). Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges on that page. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
An editor made change but did not follow the WP:SIMPLE rules and explain with an edit summary. I was merely restoring the WP:STATUSQUO. I understand WP:BRD and I have started a discussion on the article talk page. -- 109.76.198.55 (talk) 14:12, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just a friendly word of advice. Edit warring isn't about what's the best edit, or who's right or wrong, or what another editor does. The only time when making repeated reverts is not edit warring is when obvious vandalism is reverted, which is not the case here. Any edit warring can get you blocked very quickly, regardless of your intent. I'd hate to see you blocked. In this particular case, you didn't quite take it far enough to get blocked, but you ended up getting the page semiprotected. That means you can't edit the page but the other editor can; I don't think that was your intent. I'm glad you started a talk page discussion, but you should have done so before your first revert. If that doesn't work, there are other options at WP:DR. The page likely will be unprotected in about a week. At that point I wouldn't be surprised if there is another revert. Don't take bait. Follow the usual dispute resolution process. I understand your frustration, but this is not an issue that is worth getting a block. One more caution. You edit from different IPs; that's probably beyond your control. But that won't stop you from getting a block for edit warring; and it won't stop an extension of the semiprotection. Give this some thought and ask me or an administrator if you're not sure what to do. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 14:47, 28 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
The only way we win is if we get a better encyclopedia, I know. Thanks for the advice, as you have already noticed I make mistakes sometimes. In hindsight I could have handled that better. I react hastily to image changes because they are much more difficult to rollback. The advice you have already given is right and I should calm down.
As for getting a better encyclopedia ... I was interested enough to see Kate (film) and in the end credits I noticed details about the locations, LA, Japan, Thailand, and Hawaii. Japan is obvious enough, and Thailand seems to have served as a less expensive secondary location doubling for Japan. I'm still hoping to add more location information to the article if I can find reliable sources but I haven't found anything specific about Hawaii yet. -- 109.78.193.127 (talk) 12:25, 29 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
