Whose Line is it Anyway?

edit

The entry for Whose Line is it Anyway is not exactly accurate; it needs an asterisk at the very least if not outright revision.

The show has had 3 versions under common control and is unusual not only for changing networks but countries.

The originators are Brits and the show was made in Britain starting in about 1988 for a UK audience and hosted by Englishman Clive Anderson; they made 125 or so episodes over 9 seasons (including some clip/highlight episodes) before realizing that all the regular performers were North Americans. So the entire show picked up and moved to Hollywood where the 10th season was made for the UK audience and the first version of the show made for an American audience hosted by Drew Carey began in the same studio with the same participants, props, etc etc.

That show lasted about 8 years on ABC and presumably was broadcast back to the UK to fill the hole left when the Anderson version was canceled, before Carey left the show and it was canceled. A few years later it was revived with Aisha Tyler hosting and it has remained on the CW network ever since, with this its 9th season, again with the same cast and more or less everything else the same as well going back to when it was in Britain.

So instead of 220 shows, I'd assess it at right on 500 incorporating all the versions of what really has been a continuous program except for a hiatus of about 5 years between about 2008 and 2013 and the unusual phenomenon of moving to another country to continue its run.

Thanks.
