Patronyms.

edit

Please stop adding Russian patronymics and Russian names to the middle names of non-Russian people who were not born with those patronymics. The patronyms were added later by Russian media by custom. They were not born with these names. In particular, the patronyms you have added to Estonian entries. I have reverted your edits. Thanks. ExRat (talk) 22:40, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Noted. No need to revert the edit on Ivan Rebroff though. He himself added the patronymic to his name. I forgot to add the source. Имяуза (talk) 22:44, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay. Apologies for that one, I didn't see a reference, but I will take your word for it. ExRat (talk) 22:46, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
That one too looks dubious to me, a single reference from WP:ru to Izvestia 09.05.1989, with no google-able results in western sources. Sparafucil (talk) 01:46, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you did so much as to look up the phrase "По документам я действительно Иван Павлович Ребров" you would find the original interview in its entirety. Apologies if I should have used the link instead. If needed, I will proceed to editing the source, adding the link - or you can do it yourself. Not sure what counts as a western source. Thanks, the link is a big help! By 'western' I meant not bound by Russian convention as User:ExRat pointed out above. This case is slightly different: asked if Rebroff is a stage name, he claims there are documents (which may or may not exist/have existed) spelling out Ivan Pavlovich Rebrov. That's not quite the same as "he himself added the patronymic", and seems more appropriate for a footnote than for a prominent spot in the lede. Sparafucil (talk) 19:17, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
