The Yuanjia Northern Expeditions (Chinese: 元嘉北伐) were a series of military campaigns launched by Liu Song dynasty against Northern Wei between 430 and 452. The expeditions were named by the era name at that time, Yuanjia. All three expeditions were unsuccessful, and the second expedition marked one of the most notorious defeat in the history of China: the counteroffensive of Northern Wei advanced to Yangtze River, looting much territory north of the river.
