Plot Summary
editThe story takes place in New York during 1923, four years after the Volstead Act was signed into law. Rose Baker is a typist at a New York City Police Department precinct. Her duties primarily include transcribing the confessions of suspects brought into the precinct. One day a new girl, Odalie, is hired to help with transcribing the additional influx of confessions due to the Volstead Act. Odalie proves to be a master of seduction and Rose quickly finds herself caught up in the new typist's mystique. [1]
