Guillermo Penalosa (born 1957)[1] is a Canadian urban planner and candidate for mayor in the 2022 Toronto mayoral election. He is most known for his Canadian-based urban planning and pedestrian-advocate group 8 80 Cities and as chair of the board for World Urban Parks [2]. On July 14, 2022, he announced his candidacy for mayor of Toronto in the 2022 mayoral election.[3]
Background
editPenalosa is the brother to Enrique Peñalosa, former mayor of Bogotá, Columbia. In the 1990s, Penalosa was commissioner for parks, sport and recreation (District Institute of Recreation and Sports ) in Bogotá.
2022 Toronto mayoral campaign
editOn July 14, 2022, Penalosa announced his intention to run for Mayor of Toronto in the 2022 municipal elections,[3] focusing much of his campaign on cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, bus rapid transit lanes, traffic, housing affordability, and road safety. Cite error: The opening <ref>
