Darwin Porter is known as one of the most prolific writers of the Frommer's travel guides[1] and a Hollywood biographer[2].

Porter was born in western North Carolina and grew up in Miami Beach. He attended the University of Miami[3] and graduated in 1959. At the age of 20, he became an entertainment columnist for the Miami Herald[4], later being made bureau chief in Key West.[5].

In addition to his travel guide work and a number of novels, Porter has written controversial biographies on Humphrey Bogart, Howard Hughes, Katharine Hepburn, and Marlon Brando based on "about a thousand 'official interviews,' and about five times that many 'unofficial' interviews" with many major Hollywood celebrities.[6]. He is part of Blood Moon Productions, which began as the Georgia Literary Association in 1997.

Porter also recently contributed commentary tracks to numerous DVD releases of classic films. [7]
