Design edit

The Keio 5000 series was a recipient of the Good Design Award in 2017. Of note was the exterior's "sharp and black front face which has not been seen in the Keio's previous designs" and the interior's "elegant space with motif to deep brown trees of Mt. Takao and silk made in Hachioji".^[1]

The fleet of five ten-car 5000 series trainsets was built by Japan Transport Engineering Company ("J-TREC") at a total cost of approximately JPY10 billion.^[2]^[3]
