Hengyang Normal University (HYNU),founded in 1904 with original name Hunan Government Normal Academy, is a full-time public university directly affiliated to Hunan Province Education Department and authorized by the Ministry of Education. It is situated in the second largest city of China’s Hunan Province---Hengyang, where Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, Hengyang-Zaomupu Expressway and Hengyang-Shaoyang Expressway find their ways there. With Mount Heng (one of the Five Sacred Mountains in China) lying to the north, Xiang River (one of the tributaries of China’s Yangtze River) running to the south, and Hengzhou Avenue and Riverside Avenue clinging to its eastern and western campuses respectively, HYNU can boast its favorable geographical position. It has a long history and profound cultural heritage, and has nurtured nearly 300,000 graduates over the past 100 years.

HYNU has 17 departments (colleges), 46 full-time undergraduate majors, 1 first class of featured major constructing spot of the Ministry of Education, 6 provincial key disciplines, 10 provincial key and featured majors, and 12 provincial classic subjects.

HYNU has a faculty of 756, achieving its goal of “Double-Hundred Project” (one hundred professors and one hundred doctors). It has 6 experts who are entitled to grants from the State Council, 1 national outstanding educator, 6 national excellent teachers, 1 new-century prominent talent of the Ministry of Education, 8 who are selected by Hunan Province New Century 121 Talent Project, and dozens of provincial experts of social science, provincial excellent teachers, provincial academic leaders and provincial backbone teachers. In addition, it has more than 50 part-time professors from both home and abroad.

HYNU has been active in international academic exchange and cooperative education, and has established friendly and cooperative relationships with more than 10 universities from different countries and regions, including the U.S., the U.K., South Korea, and Hong Kong. A series of cooperative education programs are being launched, such as sending HYNU staff to foreign (offshore) universities for training, Work & Travel USA, sending students to South Korea for “two plus two” exchange and learning, sending excellent graduates to South Korea to participate in graduate programs, and international exchange student plan with many foreign universities.

HYNU adheres to the quality-oriented principle, and to the idea of serving basic education by nurturing excellent teachers, serving local economy and social development by training high-quality specialized talents. It has made great contribution to the promotion of economic development and social progress, which has been thought highly of by the society. The employment rate for HYNU new graduates has remained above 90%.
