Because of users automatically creating accounts for vandalism, Wikipedia has been forced to prevent usernames being created that are too similar to existing usernames and to add an image (called a captcha) to the login process to confirm that users are not using an automated process. If you have attempted to create an account, but have chosen a username that is too similar to an existing username, or have been unable to read the image because you are using a screen reader, or a browser that does not support images, please post your request for an account here. Follow the instructions below:

Instructions:

  1. Check here to make sure your desired name isn't already in use.
  2. Click this link, and fill out both fields.
    • If the Toolserver is not working, you can send a plain email to the mailing list. Be sure to send your email and requested username!
  3. Check back at your e-mail inbox for any possible updates or problems that may occur with your request.
    • If you are told that the username is "already taken", you will need to re-apply for a different username.
    • Once your account has been made successfully, you will receive an automated e-mail from wiki@wikimedia.org stating your login credentials. You can use these to log in where you will then be prompted to create a new password.

Administrators and experienced users: Instructions on how to act on requests (including creating an account) can be found here.

If you need any other information, please ask at the talk page.
