Ladies European Tour

edit
  • 1978: WPGA formed; Carlsberg main sponsor, supporting 12 tournaments.[1]
  • 1982/3: The continuing issues resulted in the departure of executive director Barry Edwards, who was also responsible for the tour's marketing, following legal action in the High Court.[2][3][4] The WPGA then came to an agreement with the Professional Golfers' Association, with the PGA directly administering the tour,[5] and director of the PGA, Colin Snape, becoming the new executive director of the WPGA.[6]
  • 1983/4: The WPGA tour enjoys a revival,[7] with increased prize money and tournaments extended to 72-holes.[8] European Open announced.[9]
  • 1984: Disagreement with the LPGA over the Ladies Irish Open.[10][11] Unhappiness with the LGU over the WBO.[12]
  • 1985: Prize funds set to exceed £½ million.[13]
  • 1986: Colin Snape leaves WPGA.
  • 1987: Growing disquiet as three tournaments in Sweden are cancelled,[14] leading to the WPGA discussing breaking away from the PGA.[15]
  • 1988: WPGA vote to leave the PGA.[16]
