My moniker comes from the early days of Wired magazine. I was one of two seed investors, and for many years appeared on the masthead of the magazine as "Coach". I'm a semi-retired entrepreneur, having started and sold a couple of software companies, one in the late 80s, the other in the mid 90s (co-founder).
I lived in Turkey for three years as a teenager, attended a French school there, learned Greek from relatives, and acquired enough Turkish to get around. BA from UCLA in Near Eastern Studies, MA in Linguistics from San Diego State, ABD (i.e., didn't finish Ph.D.) at UCSD in Linguistics.
Much of my life has revolved around sports. Cross country, track and field in high school, soccer and rowing at UCLA, competitive Rifle & Pistol in USMC and later for US National Team (Pistol). For the last decade, I've been heavily involved in the sport of volleyball (you know, you get pulled into what your kids do...).
My daughter showed me how great Wikipedia is, so I thought I'd start contributing a little bit here and there.
