John Arnold was a Methodist circuit rider.

Arnold was a widower when he entered the ministry.

In 1815, Arnold was assigned to the St. Lawrence Circuit, where he worked alongside Israel Chamberlayne. That year, membership in the Methodist church decreased by twelve under their watch.
