My village Oshaango-Shangweda
In the northern part of Namibia, 25kilometers from a town called Ondangwa there is a village called Oshaango in Ohangwena Region , the constituency of Eehnana politically, it has a history that during the colonial era the South African Deference Force had its camp in this village and where most war between the SWATF and the SWAPO PLAN fighters and interestingly many of the ex-combated soldiers came from here. It is a forest village, very sandy and make no mistake to ever visit the village in a sudden car it will be hard to pass through the sandy road and with crops the soil is way fertile and ideal for growing crops, such as mahangu,maize meal, beans,nuts and the other lettuces..rain is adequate although during summer water drained in oshanas and pans tend to be scarce, due to the sunny season leading to headers going long miles to take their livestock to drink"oh..quite tiring.
The head man of Oshaango is his excellency tate Shiweda Martin, actually the village was named after him -he is an old man now , in his late 90s as we speak.During the years since the Independence until 2007 ,people had to drink dirty contaminated water. The village had no tap clean water, so it was a privilege that villagers had to fetch water from wells,oshanas ground water on their head, those who had live stocks like donkeys could put them on carts to fetch water , actually dirty water but people have had no choice to turn on , instead they drank this water .For now things have changed together with development , there are taps, electricity, shops for basic necessities, clinics are build and brought a little bit more closer to the village , unlike those days people had to walk long distances to go to the hospital, to fetch water some even have taps within their homes.Moreover, the village are also schools situated around this very village making it easy for learners, for instance cutting on the distance they could travel weren't there schools such as Oshaango Combined School,OnankaliCombined School and Onambutu Combined School as well that are pretty more closer to the village , like during the years of 1980s , during the colonial era , where people had to walk long tiring distances to and from school.
Remember! This village is centered between two towns Ondangwa and Eehnana , making it easy for the villagers to pay just a few to cover for their transport should they travel to town for this and that, be it for financial purpose being wanting to withdraw some money from the bank, even if a certain situation requires an immediate police involvement , it is more closer to get to the village;coming from either towns (Ondangwa or Eehnana).I really love Oshaango and it is the very village where i was born, grew up at yet went to school at (Oshaango combined) and one of my dream is to one day up bring it and make some developments that will help my fellow villagers.
