There are some excellent videos related to cell biology. One of the best is The Inner Life of the Cell

mRNA

edit

There are several isoforms of TMEM66. The two most commonly seen have all seven exons (XX nt) or lack exon 2 (YY nt). In addition to alternatively splicing, TMEM66 is uses alternative promoters. Comparative analysis of the total brain samples showed that TMEM66 has statistically significant usage of alternative promoters in AD samples [1].

Protein

edit

A multiple sequence alignment can be a useful way to show important features of a human protein and its orthologs. Here is one for TMEM66[2] .:

Protein Interactions

edit

TMEM66 has been found to interact with several proteins in two hybrid screen assays. Here is one network:

Clinical Significance

edit

A slight association with a the ability to quit smoking has been detected for one variant of TMEM66.
