The Warwick International Foundation Programme (formally known as the ‘Higher Education Programme’) is a nine month fast-track programme to prepare international students wishing to enter undergraduate study at UK universities, including the University of Warwick.
History
The Higher Education Programme was developed in 1983 by a consortium of local colleges and the University of Warwick, due to the demand that was generated by international students who wished to enter higher education, but were unsuitable for direct entry to degree courses in Britain. 15 students were admitted to a pilot scheme the first year, before these students had completed the course, the University of Warwick Senate approved the establishment of an on-going programme in May 1984. The 15 students all gained degree places including 3 at The University of Warwick. In the following year, 41 students registered for the programme. Since it’s formulation is 1983, the student numbers have grown significantly, reaching 286 students in 2015.
In 2013, the HEFP was re-named the ‘Warwick International Foundation Programme’ to give a clear indication to the ownership of the programme and to re-iterate that the programme is targeted towards international students. The Warwick IFP prides itself on increasing the diversity of the nationality of students. With China once holding the majority percentage of students, between 2008 and 2015 the percentage of Chinese students to the rest of the world has decreased from 70.3% to 47.3%, producing the most diverse cohort since the programme began. Today
The Warwick IFP is currently taught at Warwick University’s partner colleges – Warwickshire College in Royal Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon College in Stratford-upon-Avon. Students have access to a wide range of academic and social resources to enhance student experience. The programme is taught through a combination of small classes, lectures and tutorials and pupils are assigned a small tutor group, who will support students’ academic development through the course. Being a part of the Warwick IFP also enables student’s full access to all on-campus facilities including the University of Warwick library, sports facilities and University of Warwick Students’ Union. The Warwick IFP is recognized and accepted by all UK universities.

Each of the five academic streams provides students with the academic foundations for further study, in addition to English Language support tailored to each discipline. Following the programme, students have the opportunity to progress to one of a wide range of undergraduate programmes at The University of Warwick and will receive a guaranteed offer of a place when they apply through UCAS and achieve the entry criteria. The colleges offers on-campus accommodation in their halls of residence with the option of catered or self-catered packages. Home stay accommodation is also available with a host family and over 18s can request private accommodation.

Business Studies
Taught at Stratford-upon-Avon College
You will develop the knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to a wide range
of business-related programmes. The course teaches the foundations of business and includes
modules of Mathematics, Statistics, Economics and Sociology which will allow you to explore
how business exists and operates in modern society.
Law
Taught at Warwickshire College
This programme will prepare you for the study of law at undergraduate level and will introduce
you to the core foundations of the English Legal System. You will learn under the Warwick
model of Law in Context and explore how the law relates to society. You will study Law and
Social Science, which encompasses elements of Politics, Economics and Psychology.
Mathematics and Economics
Taught at Warwickshire College
The Maths & Economics stream will develop advanced level mathematics understanding
in preparation for a range of maths-related undergraduate programmes. You will study
Mathematics, Statistics, Decision Mathematics, Economics and Finance. You will also have
the opportunity to gain additional support for university mathematics entry examinations
(such as the STEP).
Science and Engineering
Taught at Warwickshire College
You will develop a range of skills through classroom and laboratory based teaching that will
support your progression to science and engineering related undergraduate programmes.
You will study Mathematics and Physics in addition to either ICT or Economics.
